Marquee Records The thrash metal genre has been in an upswing these last several years. Many key names in field have been returning to their roots, with varying results. Some have been killer (Kreator, Death Angel), but some also questionable (Exodus, Destruction). But there have been new upstart bands giving a fresh take on the genre across the globe, whose results have even surpassed some of the genre's founders. One such band is Brazil's Andralls, a sonic force to be reckoned with. From the very first notes Andralls immediately waste no time in displaying their formidable thrash attack. Naturally being from Brazil, its easy to hear one of (if not the) most important Brazilian thrash bands as a main influence, naturally I'm speaking of Sepultura. However Andralls easily one-ups the former masters, writing a batch of songs that could have been what Sepultura sounded like if they eschewed the death elements of Arise and continued the straight forward thrash. Yes, I make such a bold statement and stand by it, Inner Trauma is the logical continuation of Beneath The Remains. There is little if any modern elements thrown in here. No gothenburg stylings, no rapping or tribal themes, just four hungry brazilians wanting to rip your head off. And rip your head off they do. Repeatedly. Once you've finally put all the bandages in place, they give you a few more swift kicks just because they can. Throughtout Inner Trauma you are overwhelmed by an endless barrage of riffs by Alex Coelho and Di Lallo, each being better than the last. After your body has been bludgeoned by the riffs, the solos put you through the meatgrinder. I haven't heard thrash solos this good in many years, perhaps since Deceased's Fearless Undead Machines. They rarely ever slow down either, as they have no real need to. The strength of the riffs are good enough to maintain the constant fast pace. Alex Coelho also handles the vocals and not surprisingly one can hear Max Cavalera prominently in his delivery. This should be expected as most bands from that region also employ that quality. Lyrically, the band follows many of the stardard themes present in 80's thrash, most notably the environment and the dangers of mad science. English is obviously not these guys primary language, so the choice in words is at times confusing, other times slightly humorous. No matter, with songs these good, they can sing showtunes for all I care. Stay Fasthrash! 01. Unexpected 02. Fear Is My Ally 03. Down The Jokers 04. Hidden Enemies 05. The Age Of Rage 06. Awake And Dead 07. Developed Underground 08. Unconcious Choice 09. Non-Shooting War 10. Subhuman Worms 11. Heads Or Tails? 12. Mercy Mass 13. Panic Syndrome 13. Terror Fetus (Brazilian bonus track) Score: 9/10
