Sanctuary Seeing as how Ozzy has no intention on participating in any possible future Black Sabbath studio release, that has left the rest of the band to channel their musical energies into other projects. Tony Iommi has his own thing collaborating with Gene Hughs. I don't know what Bill Ward has been doing. The remaining member, Geezer Butler, has his own solo outfit by the name of GZR which produced two albums in the mid 90's (one featuring Fear Factory's Burton C. Bell on vocals) and completed their third in 2005, titled Ohmwork. GZR is far more entrenched in the modern metal style dominating the U.S. right now. Chunga chunga riffs are abundant, and it seems odd that a man that helped shape Heavy Metal into what it is today would waste his time on this all too easy style. The first two songs on Ohmwork are decent enough. Pardon My Depression sounds like an attempt that combining Sabbath's heaviness with Alice In Chains styled moody groove. They are hardly worthy of being in the same spotlight as much of Geezer's classic body of work, but at the very least give a glance of hope that the rest of Ohmwork will come out well. Any such expectations are shattered when the third song Prisoner 103 starts, which is a full blown mallcore song that you could expect on a Limp Bizkit album complete with white boy rapping ala Rage Against The Machine. Aural Sects is total System Of A Down/Slipknot worship. It would appear that he has spent a little too much time around those Ozzfest bands. The rest of the album isn't that much better. You'd expect that at least the bass would be above average, but it really isn't. While recieving a good amount of space in the mix, there's nothing really extraordinary about Geezer's basslines. I don't really wanna write more about this album, its just a sore mark on the nearly 40 year legacy of one of metal's most influencial bassists. 01. Misfit 02. Pardon My Depression 03. Prisoner 103 04. I Believe 05. Aural Sects 06. Psuedocide 07. Pull The String 08. Alone 09. Dogs Of Whore 10. Don't You Know Score: 4/10
