Nuclear Blast Sophomore releases are usually tricky affairs, some bands opt to wait a few years to work out any kinks while others like Communic perfer to strike while the iron is still hot. Its only been a year since Conspiracy In Mind was released and they've already delivered album #2. Serving as a progressive alternative to the US Power Metal sound, the Swedes garnered plenty of praise from critics and fans alike, and their newest will no doubt attract the same. Waves Of Visual Decay is the name of the album and its cut from the same cloth as the debut. Oddleif Stensland still sounds very much like Nevermore's Warrel Dane, albiet a bit rougher around the edges. The sound is very influenced by Nevermore's sound, though the progressive elements still set them apart. Once more, lengthy soundscapes are Communic's calling card, weaving in various shifting tempos and shady moods. The overall sound isn't anymore refined as the debut, the songs sound fairly interchangable as if they were from the same recording sessions. This isn't really a complaint since the material works, but I do hope that album #3 has some significant advancement in the formula. If you enjoyed their debut then I see no reason why you shouldn't enjoy Waves Of Visual Decay. If you haven't heard them and like bands in the vein of Nevermore, then they'll fit right in with the rest of your collection. 01. Under A Luminous Sky 02. Frozen Asleep In The Park 03. Watching It All Disappear 04. Fooled By The Serpent 05. Waves Of Visual Decay 06. My Bleeding Victim 07. At Dewey Prime Score: 7/10

I love this disc myself. Don't take this personally, as everyone in the world seems to be comparing them to nevermore, but honestly other than the first song i just don't hear it. And admittedly, i was guilty of throwing out the nevermore comparison with the first disc, and i see where it's coming from, but i feel Communic is an entirely different animal than nevermore.
That said, i think this is a vast improvement over Conspiracy in Mind and i think communic is one of the most promising bands to come out in the last 3 years.
