Aurora Borealis Hailing from a murky cesspool in New York, Villains is waiting to split your head wide open and steal your wallet in order to buy booze and hookers. Fueled by an unhealthy dose of early-80's Venom (for starters), Villains stomps through eight slabs of ugly heavy metal in Drenched In The Poisons. Coupled with a production that eschews any and all modern conventions, Villains easily achieves their mission. To these guys, its still 1983. I sure ain't gonna try and explain to them the passage of time, the world needs more honest releases like Drenched In The Poisons. The songs lack any real complexity, not that they need any. Songs like Before The Spike, Seduce And Destroy and the title track burst forth with mad alcoholic fury. Not content with just tossing Venom and Bathory your way, Villains also unleashes Voivod-esque chords on Torture Is Too Kind and Zero Kingdom that spiral and coil around like a cobra waiting to strike. Desecrator screams as if he's trying to strangle someone who stole his drink. Witch Killer slams on the drum kit maniacally while Killusion and Teeth mangle the stringed instruments. Listen to Drenched In The Poisons enough and you're bound to get a hangover. 01. Before The Spike 02. Sickness Of Snakes 03. Torture Is Too Kind 04. Seduce And Destroy 05. Trampled 06. LTFV 07. Zero Kingdom 08. Drenched In The Poisons Score: 8/10
