Pulverised Records Impiety assault us with this compilation of their sickening black thrash death attack from releases between 1990 and 2008, when this was released last year. To make this a necessity for all Impiety freaks out there they have included one exclusive song, Dominion 18. It is a 7 and a half + minute opus of thrash metal drenched in black metal and death metal, standard fare from this Singapore death machine.
Included on this best of compilation spanning 18 years of death, blasphemy and desecration are the following tracks: The Seventh Goatspawn, Pentagramathron and Ceremonial Necrochrist Redesecration from the 1992 demo Ceremonial Necrochrist Redesecration; Cuntblasphemy - Paganistic Bitchgoddess Deiimpalation from the 1993 Salve The Goat...Iblis Exelsi EP; Bismishyaithan, Hymnvocation Of Nazarethian Nunwhores, and Anal Madonna from the 1996 album Asateerul Awaleen; Serpentspells from the 1997 Funeralight EP; Torment In Fire, Ironflames Of Hate, and Lords Of Apokalypse from the 1999 album Skullfucking Armageddon; Kaos Kommand 696, Bloodred Angelshred, and Christfuckingchrist from the 2002 album Kaos Kommand 696; Imperative Coronation from the 2004 split with Surrender of Divinity; Mighty Impiety, Reign The Vulture, and Carbonized from the 2004 album Paramount Evil; The Blitzkrieg Omega, Vomit Jehovah Vomit, and Terror Death Worship from the 2007 album Formidonis Nex Cultus; The new song Dominion 18. This offers a balanced sampling of Impiety's discography, documenting what one might even consider calling the evolution of the band. Evolution is perhaps a confusing choice of words, as it suggests an ever changing or adjusting sound that might vary from release to release. This isn't the case with Impiety, since they have made a career off of strict adherence to an enduring sound of raw and perverse metal. It has not been formulaic or stagnant, however. As this compilation shows, Impiety started from modest beginnings as a guttural, black/death metal band spitting virulence and smashing away with their fuzzy distorted, downtuned guitars to create sloppy but impassioned chaos recorded in what sounds like it could be a garage, on an analog 4-track. Their 1993 EP then showcases a cleaner production but a similar raw sound. Their debut full length album in 1996 is total black metal (with a raw energy reminiscent of 80's thrash or grindcore), complete with some eerie synthesized choir effects and sounds as if it is strongly influenced by the 90's black metal of the time in riffs, drumming, vocals, just about in every possible aspect. Impiety do it no less convincingly than the big names from Norway at that time. By 1997, however, the Funeralight EP puts the spotlight back on Impiety's chaotic, animalistic thrashing death metal intensity that in no way dilutes the black metal aesthetic, but raises the bar. 1999's Skullfucking Armageddon then sees Impiety indulging in every last bit of hyper-thrash taken from the likes of Kreator, Sarcofago and Sodom, blackening it to the most extreme, and tearing the world a new asshole with a fierceness unrivaled. Impiety continue in this manner for the next releases, tightening up the sound and improving upon past ideas. Production values increase with each release, the sound becomes a better and more even blend of thrash metal and death metal with hints of black metal sporadically spread through out. There are obvious improvements in musicianship through these later years, as old band members leave and new members come along. Older tunes lack the complexity of later songs, but not the spirit of abhorrence. Still, through all the 18 years of recordings, there is the thread of the vision that is Impiety, which is lightning fast, chainsaw ferocious, deathly aggressive metal extremity pulling no punches, engaging in no gags, no bullshit, no trends, no letting up. One listening from the end to the beginning of this compilation (older songs first) will easily notice the improvements as the songs go on. Everything is improved upon, bringing Impiety to a point of maximum, where the sound is familiar but not tired. Intense as hell, and like a two hour long blitzkrieg storming your head.
