Hells Headbangers

Like a second holocaust, Prosanctus Inferi's  Pandemonic Ululations of Vesperic Palpitation is a death-worshiping onslaught of hatefilled demonic possession and infested vistas of horrific death that prevails above all notions of decency and modesty. Unlike a second holocaust, Pandemonic Ululuations of  Vespric Palpitation is very welcome in our world, and immediately has a place in appreciable  history of both music and art, because it succeeds at pulverizing the world in front of it in a hatestorm of blasphemy without committing mass genocide, which people understandably do not appreciate.

If you put Incantation, Profanatica and Nunslaughter into a blender, and hit BLEND, you would, more or less, pour out Prosanctus Inferi into your coffee cup. It would taste fantastic, and be a welcome flavor to an otherwise uninteresting palate of modern shit-headed metal.  Prosanctus Inferi create abominant soundscapes that recreate blasphemous landscapes unlike too many modern death metal bands, ultimately being more promising and devastating than your standard death metal band that plays by the formulas and understands the point of everything they set out to do. If anything, it seems Prosanctus Inferi understand the point better than most, and build the colossal storm of hate above it to reign down in unyielding falls. Prosanctus Inferi play a style that I like to nickname Apocalyptic Death Metal because it harbors end of times darkness and harm to all ears that lend themselves to its narcotic torment.

Guitars sound as dark and holocaustal as they possibly could, like windmill chainsaws born of  fire and concrete, hateful death and abhorrent abortions. Don’t let the verbose song titles dilute your path to unholy consecration… not that they would. If anything, these songs will help procreate the devastating future of tactical armory against God. I give the musicianship an absolute thumbs up in the guitar and drumming department, because the precision of warlike hymns and the percussive + riffological Armageddon gives me hives, but in a good way. The production asks nothing more than logical clarity while providing a thick and rugged dose of guitaristic flesh harm. Percussive efforts, presumably by Steve Mercer, are gratifying and filled with the speed and precision required of today’s work-a-day apocalyptic death metal.

Prosanctus Inferi means, according to guitarist and songwriter J. Kohn, "being in support of anything sacred, holy, and sanctimonious being buried or dead or below the earth." If we take for a moment, an analogy with high energy particle physics, and treat things that are sacred, holy or sanctimonious as having "antiparticles" that would be things that are unsacred, unholy, and unsanctimonious, or rather, just pure evil, then we can think of this burial of the holy in the same way as we think of a particle propagating through space. A particle propagating through space and time can also be seen as an antiparticle traveling backward in time, or backward in space. Let's apply this to Prosanctus Inferi's name, and take that it, by scientific analogy, is equivalently in support of evil and horror and devastation rising up from under the surface of Earth. This makes sense, because the speed and cave-like, hell bath riffs truly summon images of such darkness. No time is wasted with riffs tangling the listener in useless forays into wankery or overly technical babble, but nor are they simplistic riffs that could be pulled off by a first year guitarist. Each note, each pattern, each brief moment in the distorted chaos seems carefully calculated and thought out for maximal abysmal effectiveness.

I’d like to close this  verbose review by stating that this album delivers a delicately formulated expression of dark and unholy landscapes of thunder and subterranean terror to really adequately communicate aural madness to the fans and the perhaps brainless few who can’t manage to  comprehend  what unholy vistas of unreality it portrays in an attempt to infectiously spread blasphemy dominion to the pious and foolish.
