The Almighty Punchdrunk - The Cobalt, Vancouver B.C. 03/17/2001
This St. Patrick's day gig was well worth the three hour drive and the 30 minute interview at Canadian customs. From the minute Glenn Thomson brought out the corrugated aluminum and the disc sander Punchdrunk delivered a no-holds-barred attack on the senses. The dual vocals of Glenn and Cam Kroetch ranged from pure hardcore to the extremes of cookie monster styling. Even though the monitors weren't working properly the musicianship was tight as hell, held together by the lightning feet and hands of underground drum god Gene Hoglan. This was also the debut appearance of a new guitarist whose name got by me due to excessive beer consumption. Slayer's Kerry King was in the audience and seemed to be getting a lot more attention than he wished. A good time was had by all except for the asshole who got beaten severely by a couple thugs after the show.
The Almighty
Punchdrunk is:
Cam Kroetch - guitar and vocals
Gene Hoglan - drums
Glenn Thomson - vocals
Capt. Ron - bass
Shane - Guitar
