DARK TRANQUILLITY cancels Mexico and Columbia gigs Posted 3/21/2003 at 22:21PM by chris We are extremely sorry to have to announce the frustrating fact that the upcoming gigs in Mexico and Colombia are cancelled, due to the inability of the local promotor to live up to his part of the agreement. At this point, we don't know all the details, but our management has been working day and night during the last week trying to get some kind of confirmation from the promotor that the most essential and basic parts of the arrangement, such as the booking of the airplane tickets, had been taken care of.
After a lot of uncertainty and an increasing sense of suspicion that the necessary organizational measures weren't taken, everything eventually seemed to be resolved, but last night - just a few hours before our planned departure from Gothenburg - we got the definite news from our management that the flight arrangements were severely insufficient and that the promotor had backed out of the deal, admitting that things hadn't been properly taken care of from the beginning and that it now was too late to repair the damage.
We deeply apologize to our Mexican and Colombian fans and friends, and we hope that you understand that the cancellation is in no way due to the band. This is a disaster for us. We had a fantastic time during our "Haven" dates in Mexico, and had the pleasure to meet some of the most devoted and enthusiastic fans we've ever seen, and it feels truly devastating to have to stay at home with packed bags and all preparations made because of matters that are out of our hands.
BLIND GUARDIAN live album info Posted 3/21/2003 at 22:20PM by chris Here is some information about the upcoming livealbum: It will be a double cd for sure, we are currently mixing 20 songs recorded in various cities during last years tour. Those songs are: Into the Storm, Welcome to Dying, Nightfall, The Script for my Requiem, Harvest of Sorrow, Valhalla, Majesty, The Soulforged, Under the ice, Born in a Mourning Hall, Lord of the Rings, Punishment Divine, Time stands still, Bright Eyes, The Bard´s Song - In the Forrest, Imaginations from the other side, Lost in the Twilight Hall, Journey through the dark, A past & Future Secret and Mirror Mirror. We still don´t have a name for the album and also the cover is not done yet but we at least know when it should be released... on May 26th. Before that, on April 28th, we´ll release a single with a couple of different versions of the Bard´s song, it will contain a new studioversion of that song + different liveversions which all show how different our audiences all over the world react during that song...
THE CROWN update Posted 3/17/2003 at 12:32PM by chris We´re done with the pre-productions now. And that means simply that we have recorded a demo version of the whole album (Thanx Valle). As it seems now we´ll have 13 tracks on the album, 2 of them will be instrumental. As it looks now, the new album will be a bad motherfucker. Less melodies and as Magnus stated before, more power! And for the lyrics I must say that Magnus has definitely wrote his best stuff ever! The whole album has a very strong feel of original Death Metal spirit. This is fucking Death Metal culture!!!
Tracklist:
01. No Tomorrow 02. Deliverance 03. Face Of Destruction / Deep Hit Of Death 04. Are You Morbid? 05. Dream Bloody Hell (instrumental) 06. Cold Is The Grave 07. Kill ´Em All 08. Morningstar Rising 09. Natashead Overdrive 10. Bow To None 11. Zombiefied! 12. Dawn Of Emptiness 13. The Endless Gate (instrumental)
We also have started working on the cover artwork together with the excellent Locust Construction (-keep rollin´ boys!). And it will be looking just awesome.
TIDFALL - new album Posted 3/12/2003 at 22:19PM by chris Studio time is booked for recording of the new album, here’s what the band has to say: „Entering Akkerhaugen Lydstudio at the end of march will be the culimination of almost a year of work writing the new material. Our focus on new song-writing routines + doing pre-productions of all songs has really paid off, and this is surely to be reflected in the new compositions! This time we'll plow a ditch right down to the pits of hell!
During studio, we'll have ongoing reports published on our site www.tidfall.net. Regular updates on the progress will be availible togheter with more detailed information on the songs. Songtitles will be revealed and we'll have lots of pics to show you.“
Plans are made for doing a music video: „Together with the relase of the new album we'll have a brand new vid for ya! Updates on progress will follow as soon as the takes start when we're back from studio!
We are happy to announce that the hunt for a designer to do the cover and lay-out for the new album is finished. The work has not started yet and therefore we will announce the designer and give you some background on him later. All that is to say for now is that this guy will visually take your mind to places you usually associate with mushrooms!“

THE KOVENANT - Drummer left Posted 3/12/2003 at 22:18PM by chris Here’s some important news directly from the band:
„So another chapter in the bands history has come to and end. It has mutually been decided that Von Blomberg (aka Hellhammer), will be leaving the band. And a new replacement drummer will be taking his place. New members for the band are also being auditioned, and will be revealed shortly.
With the imminent release of the 4th album, “Seti”. Things are looking very good for the future of The Kovenant. And being more dedicated and headstrong than ever. I can only predict greater things in store for us.
We would like to thank Von Blomberg for the years of mischief and friendship, and wish him well on his future escapades. Wherever that may be. And that he will always remember that together we have made history more than once...

PROGPOWER USA IV press release Posted 3/12/2003 at 22:15PM by chris Finland's NIGHTWISH and Germany's RAGE have been confirmed to make their American debuts as headliners of ProgPower USA IV, which returns to Atlanta's Earthlink Live on September 5 and 6.
"It is always exciting for us as a band to take on new areas and see how our stuff goes down there," said NIGHTWISH bassist Marco Hietala. "This time it's also quite flattering because we know that the USA and Great Britain are very hard places to win when you come from out of their native language areas, and to play as a headliner for our first time ever in the US... Wow, we'll do our best!”
After two decades together, RAGE will make their long overdue first appearance on U.S. soil. “It's great that RAGE will play the ProgPower festival this year,” said Peavy Wagner. “Finally, after all these years, we can rock the U.S. metalheads. It's gonna be fantastic.”
Joining NIGHTWISH and RAGE, which will both perform exclusively at ProgPower USA IV, are New Jersey's SYMPHONY X, Sweden's EVERGREY, Florida's CIRCLE II CIRCLE, Germany's VANDEN PLAS, Italy's SECRET SPHERE, Denmark's MERCENARY, Norway's PAGAN'S MIND, and California's REDEMPTION, which now features vocalist Corey Brown, formerly of MAGNITUDE NINE and PSYCHO DRAMA.
ProgPower IV will be the U.S. debuts for VANDEN PLAS, SECRET SPHERE, MERCENARY, and PAGAN'S MIND.
"I'm very excited about performing at the ProgPower festival this year," said former SAVATAGE vocalist Zack Stevens, who currently fronts CIRCLE II CIRCLE. "It's well known as one of the best metal festivals — even Ozzfest doesn't showcase the 'best metal bands' from America and Europe!”
Tickets for ProgPower IV go on sale May 5 at 10 a.m. EST via all Ticketmaster outlets. Advance "Gold Badge" tickets are already sold out. Only 800 tickets will be made available to the public.
Last year's festival — which featured BLIND GUARDIAN, GAMMA RAY, ANGRA, EDGUY, THRESHOLD, PAIN OF SALVATION, DEVIN TOWNSEND, SILENT FORCE, ZERO HOUR, and READING ZERO — sold out in just six days, four months in advance of the show. Tickets were sold to 36 States and 18 countries as far away as Japan.
ProgPower USA is an affiliate of the ProgPower Europe Festival.
Sponsorship and advertisement opportunities are available via the ProgPower USA website and official program. A free CD sampler will be distributed to attendees. Interested bands should contact ProgPower USA.

AS I LAY DYING and THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER sign to Metal Blade Posted 3/6/2003 at 18:17PM by Chris Metal Blade Records is very proud to announce the signing of two remarkable bands. The first is As I Lay Dying from San Diego, CA whose use of metal fused with hardcore is sure to become one of the most recognized names in the scene. Next is The Black Dahlia Murder. This young, intense five piece hailing from Detroit, MI brings us a blend of death and Swedish-style metal with a taste of American metal-core. Look for both bands to be hitting the road very soon!
As I Lay Dying's Metal Blade debut titled Frail Words Collapse will deliver 12 brutal and emotionally driven songs that are sure to capture both metal and hardcore audiences alike. Transitioning seamlessly from precise melodies to neck snapping rhythms Frail Words Collapse will undoubtedly be one of the years heaviest and most memorable records. Frail Words Collapse was recorded at Big Fish studios in North San Diego with Steve Russell and produced mainly by Tim (vocals) and Evan (guitars). Steve Russell is known for his work with bands like POD and Blindside. "Everyone at the label has been incredibly supportive. We have two days left in the studio and we are excited because all 12 of the new tracks are our best material to date!" Look for the new cd Frail Words Collapse sometime in June 2003.
The Black Dahlia Murder's debut release Unhallowed is definitely going to be a breath of fresh air in a scene that is starting to lose its luster. Fueled by fierce vocals, blast beats, brutal Swedish influenced thrash, and few more American-style surprises Unhallowed will not be soon forgotten. The recording process has already been completed and came out superbly. The band has definitely improved musically and lyrically by leaps and bounds since their last release A Cold-Blooded Epitaph, and the overall intensity of the band has finally been properly committed to the digital realm. So how does the band feel to be signed to Metal Blade?
"It feels very accomplishing. I'm excited to be part of the Metal Blade family." Cory
"It's the most amazing feeling to be able to take my music to the next level." John
"I am glad to finally have the backing of a label that will share in our vision of global domination." Trevor
"Everything I've ever wanted is finally obtainable. It's an amazing feeling." David lock.
"I am now kin to GWAR, what else is there to say?" Brian

Ave! Guess it’s about time to give you all some update on what’s currently going on within the Dark Funeral hell camp. I know we’ve kept ourselves perhaps a bit too silent lately, but there are some reasons for that, reasons that I won’t dig into right now.
Anyway, as you already might know we have for the past couple of months been holding auditions in order to find a replacement for Dominion who left the band some time ago. It looks like we finally have found the “right” guy for the job. But there’s really no hurry to reveal his name as of yet, but we will give you all a full presentation on him shortly.
While Matte is out touring with Defleshed, I will practice till death with this new demonic guy. So he is ready to play live with us when Matte eventually returns.
We are already in the process of booking shows for late spring and autumn 2003. And as soon as we got some dates confirmed they will be announced to you all.
We have also begun to discuss and making plans for the next full-length album. But it’s still way too early to reveal any of our plans. I can however let you know as much as I have finally start working on new material. I’m currently just taking it cool, but I/we will intensify the working process during the spring and summer 2003. We will keep you updated on how it all goes and what time line we’ll be setting up for ourselves with the recording of a new studio album.
