Dimmu Borgir-Live Seattle 3/16/02 Posted 3/19/2002 by Clark Chaos

I know Chris has already stated his review on the show but I thought I would throw out my 1-cent coin on it. I have not heard 2 out of the 4 bands that have played this night so I was really looking forward to this show and I had not seen Cryptopsy live. First band, Diabolic just came out and destroyed even this early in the day. They play some destructive Florida Death Metal. They hit the stage full force and didn’t let up. I had a great time watching the fretwork and the drummer had some very fast feet. Next up was Krisiun. Now I have heard a lot of great things about them and had heard a song on a sampler before this how but one song cannot represent a band. They played with a lot of energy but the lack of a rhythm guitar player just kind of killed the heaviness. It just seemed to lack something. I also thought that they sound sucked for their set, as the vocals were just lost behind the instruments. Maybe it was because of my location in the room but I was not totally blown away by them. Now Cryptopsy on the other hand was absolutely brutal and very talented. They had a great live set. They have one of the best drummers in this kind of music I have ever heard live. He could get up there with the best of them and make them work for their money. Too bad the power blew right in the later half of their set. They seem to be having nothing but bad luck with their shows on this weekend. I only got to stay for 3 songs from Dimmu Borgir but nothing bad can be said about these guys. This line-up is just incredible and I hope they keep everyone in the band. Just one band that I know I would never get bored seeing again and again. It was finally good to hear Vortex slip on some of the girly notes live. I was convinced that it was a DAT tape but I was proven wrong. Great show and well worth my time. ()
