The Hulk is by far the weirdest and trippiest of the new comic book adaptations. I'm not at all surprised to see mixed reviews in the general press, because this is a "comic book movie" with the pacing and sensibilities of an arthouse film, not at ALL what most people are expecting. People...

I'm getting the R2. It's worth it, and I don't trust that it'll get a decent dvd release over here.

Cool. Looking forward to it, but I probably won't see it till it hits some digital form or other. Is there any truth to the rumor that it's going to play at the Grand Illusion?

It's good.

Its only fault is being a middle movie. It's a great ride, and continues the story nicely. There are some scenes in here that, if you didn't feel you got your money's worth, I don't think you have a pulse. In the end, how people will think about it will ultimately depend on how they feel about the t...

So, you going to that Matrix thingy tonight?

Even here in godforsakenreno, they have "preview" screenings tonight. I will be there, at around 10pm PST. I'm going in pretty neutral on this one. I like the first one, but I don't think that its "deep philosophical underpinnings" make it better than any other action flick. I ho...

Yep. 3 out of 3 geeks agree, it's what summer movies are made of. Jackman is really the heart of it. His excellent grasp of what Wolverine is all about, is, if I had to pick one thing, what makes it all work. One of the best genre casting decisions made in a loooong time.

While there's no way I'm missing this, there's also no way that I'm paying 50 bucks for the regular edition, or 64 for the 2-disc special edition  Ebay, here I come.

Even the Irish are getting zombified: DEAD MEAT

Hopefully, the early 2000s will be remembered by genre fans as a time of resurgence for zombie flicks. They seem to be happening everywhere: (from Dark Horizons) Dead Meat: Shooting begins next Monday in Ireland on this first horror film funded by the Irish Film Board. Acclaimed short filmmaker Cono...

Word on House of the Dead is not good. Not good at all. For example: They saved on gore effects by switching to videogame footage when zombies get (re-)killed. My advice: Wait for Remo D. to go see it.

I just picked this up on ebay for 16 bucks, shipped. The Korean SE, not a bootleg. Decent flick, definitely a fun time. The sound is great. If you have any kind of sound system at all, you will be rocked.

Electric Dragon 80,000V is a blast!

For those who remember, Fox/Lorber's VHS release of Tetsuo the Iron Man also featured a short student film called 'Drum Struck' that had a distinct surf punk vibe. Electric Dragon 80,000V feels like the bastard child of those two flicks. It's black and white, about 50 minutes long, and pretty light ...

I started cracking up when I heard the dubbing from the Miike interview, because it's like, "Hey, let's get the community college acting class to voice this!" but after you get used to it, they do a decent job. The making of doco is good too. It's subtitled, and it seems like everyone had ...

Fango: BEYOND RE-ANIMATOR, the Brian Yuzna-directed third in the Herbert West series, has been sold to the Sci Fi Channel (!) and will be airing on the cable station in June. The film’s extreme scenes (Fango editor Tony Timpone saw the film at last month’s American Film Market and loved it) will lik...

I think it's Ventura, but also involved are American Cinematheque and Chimera Entertainment, none of which I have ever heard of.

Great disc btw, and a hilarious movie. Highly recommended.

"There are all kinds of things we can use, down to the food courts. George did a lot with a pedestrian mall in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, where the only real highlight was a hockey rink." I am just in FUCKING AWE of the depth of understanding that is being conveyed here. This movie will b...

Funny thing about this movie is, if you hit the metacritic type sites, the people who dislike it seem to do so because it's "too gory", which, you know, seems like a recommendation to me.

I'll be checking out cdjapan around that time then...
