Re: Attack the Block

I'm really conflicted with this one -- I just had a hard time connecting with the characters we're supposed to sympathize with after the opening sequence shows them to be nothing more than brat-ass little thugs who deserve to be ripped to shreds. And I could've done without the extra shots of their ...

Re: Bellflower

This played down at Asheville, NC's ActionFest this past year, but it was one of the films we unfortunately didn't make it to. (It's difficult to see everything you want during festivals!) However, they did have the actual car there, during runs around the theater parking lot! I'm looking forward to...

Indeed, the Diamond disc is the same as the unrated Vestron release. There is no longer version to be found. Grindhouse are currently working on a nice DVD of it, which should be out before too long (last I heard it's their next release).

Actually, Unearthed's DVD of AFTERMATH is now tentatively slated for a February release. It will probably be a double-disc set also containing the other two entries in Cerda's loose "trilogy," GENESIS and THE AWAKENING. Expect TONS of supplements, including interviews, behind-the scenes, p...

I always try to go into films with an open mind, and I'm not especially annoyed by the idea of remakes (I actually think the trailer to the new DAWN OF THE DEAD looks pretty good). However, I do get a bit bored by lack of talent, vision and integrity. THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (2003) is one of the...

Chiller Report + DVD News

WARNING: The names of the innocent have not been changed… Ah, Chiller Weekend. Twice a year, fans of all things genre congregate in Northern New Jersey to release six months worth of frustration in a furious orgy of purchasing that is just barely rivaled by the spectacular feeding frenzy habits exhi...

Both of Blue Underground's November Jess Franco titles look gorgeous and if you're a fan you won't be let down. As for extras, there's a very-informative featurette, trailer, stills gallery and liner notes - what else exactly do you need? My reviews of Blue Underground's September titles (THE PROWLE...

The PREMUTOS DVD doesn't have subtitles, contrary to what I was initially told by the head of Shock-O-Rama. It does, however, contain a goofy English dub track done by J.R. Bookwalter and pals.

Some spoilers, so hide your eyes... I caught it last night, and found it to be very enjoyable - though I agree with Remo about the needless climatic turn. Still, creating an alien invasion flick that NEVER SHOWS THE ALIEN INVASION is a nice gesture, and I'm glad to see genre standards and convention...

Well, Savini is on the commentary track with Joseph Zito, there's behind-the-scenes effects footage of EVERY death scene, and there's behind-the-scenes stills from his collection in the photo gallery - so if you're a Savini fan THE PROWLER is a must-own disc.

Blue Underground's DVDs - First Impression

At first glance, Blue Underground's initial releases appear to be very worthwhile investments. Pulled right from the negative, THE TOOLBOX MURDERS is one of the best DVD transfers I've ever seen, ranking alongside ZOMBIE LAKE and Fulci's THE BLACK CAT. The original negative of SHOCKWAVES was lost so...

I gotta agree with Remo D on this one, as I have NEVER in my life seen a more ridiculously cliche-filled motion picture. How about the big "climax" where they JUMP out of the mine on a dirtbike in slo-mo with a big explosion erupting behind them? Give me TICKS anyday.
