When the mob ran Vegas

When the mob ran Vegas. Dude's not a writer - just a memorabilia dealer, but the stories are pretty interesting.

The base liquid is just propylene glycol (a relative of antifreeze and the exact substance found in "fog juice") that can be had for about $12 a gallon from chemical supply companies or about $20 a gallon at Guitar center. You could probably toss a box of nicotine patches into a bucket of ...

I think I can recommend "Shutter Island". Maybe I'm just slow, but I did NOT see that ending coming. Might have to go see the movie now to find out if they did it justice.

SHIT! That never even occurred to me. I skipped going down in March because it was kinda cool and rainy there. Definitely penciling it in for next year.

I know it would be unusual behavior for the fine people in Vegas, but was there unbridled drinking and debauchery?

Strange. Whitesnake is also on the tour in other cities. Wonder why they're not at this show.

Anyone ever seen Dokken without Georgie-boy? Is it worth it?

Edit: never mind - I was looking at a calendar from 2003. Stupid Google!!!

If I'm in a hurry, I usually go to Kenmore Camera (in Kenmore). They have a pretty good inventory and most of the people there actually have a clue.

I mostly buy lights, stands, reflectors, umbrellas, etc off of eBay

I've decided that it's just too much work dicking around with getting the laptop out, booting it up, and then finding a confortable position to work in whilst wedged between the sweaty, farting, bovine fleshbags who inevitably sit next to me on my regular 2-hour flights to Vegas, so I decide to go b...

Ceiling toms?

Ran across this 1970 photo of a somewhat unusual drum kit on a webpage about Detroit rockers. Thought I'd share :) http://www.appleson.com/Dave%20Carson%20Photos/Bob%20Seger%20pat79.jpg FYI, the dirty hippy with the seizure-inducing pants is a guy named Bob Seeger. Maybe you've heard of him. Also, t...

Robert Plant was a teenager when LZ recorded it's first album. About 2 years after Stairway was released, he admitted that he could no longer hit the high notes reliably in live performance.

It happens. Should still be interesting.

The Marshall is model 4100 - 100 watt, hi gain, dual reverb. I gots no papers. I seem to remember buying the schematic for the Sunn on eBay about a decade ago, but I have no idea where it is at the moment. (might have dreamed it anyway) That one really needs a Sunn dealer because it has some hardwar...

Who is the high priest of tubedom these days?

Even though I used to have respectable electronics chops, I don't have the parts, the room, or the time to devote to doing rebuilds and such anymore. I've seen recommendations for shops and particular guys recommended here in the past, but things change and people come and go. Can anyone point to th...

Everyone is making a huge deal about one guy getting laid a few times. Back in the glory days of Spandex & Hairspray rock, this guy's entire sexual history would be roughly equivalent to an average Thursday for a working guitar player.

5d

BTW Red, the slightly older 5D is now going for as little as $1100. Hardly worth going with the consumer or semi-pro bodies at that price. The full-frame sensor (36mm) makes your lenses do what they claim to do; 50mm is actually 50mm. On a "crop frame" sensor (22mm) you multiply the lens n...

Do they only use EFS lenses? I ask as my 20d can use both. I have only bought EF lenses though as I will someday go full frame :) Oops, I misspoke slightly. The EF-S lenses apparently work on all the newer small-frame cameras like the 20D, 40D and the later Rebels. They don't work on the 10D or any...
