RIP Tobe Hooper

Passed away today at the age of 74. No cause of death named yet. George Romero last month, now Hooper this month. Sad to say, but that generation that gave us some great horror films in the 1970s and 1980s is gradually getting smaller. I just introduced my wife to the TCM the other day. She'd never ...

George Romero passes away

I figured this was only a matter of time but George Romero has passed away at 77 from lung cancer. He's looked increasingly frail. Hoped he could've gotten one more zombie movie. RIP

Re: Argento's DRACULA

Dario isn't getting any younger. I'd like to think he has one more good ole fashioned giallo or something along the lines of Suspiria or Inferno in him, but I have my doubts. His latest go is a crowdfunding project called Sandman with Iggy Pop.

RIP Wes Craven

I know he has generated a lot of controversy on the boards here, but while it's old news, it's sad to see Wes Craven gone. I introduced my fiancée to Last House on the Left last night and while she's not much of a horror fan, she loved it. That generation of filmmakers from the 70s and 80s gets smal...

Re: The Green Inferno

I enjoyed it though it does lack the meanness of the genre. I'll be interested to see how Roth's next film goes. He's going big budget with an adaptation of Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror, Steve Alten's book about a giant shark which has been in development hell for more than a decade. On the other han...

Re: 15 years later ... and giving thanks

I honestly don't frequent the forums much as I once did, but coming across this thread, I looked and saw it's been 15+ years since I joined. At the time, I was a freshman in college (was a film major at the time), always had grown up with horror films, but it was during that time that I discovered a...

R.I.P. Jess Franco

Jess Franco has passed away at the age of 82. He died in his sleep this morning at his home in Malaga, Spain. Sad to see. I just watched Succubus this past weekend too. I know Lina Romay, his longtime companion and co-star passed away from cancer late last year. Makes me wonder if Franco simply died...

Sylvia Kristel dies at age 60

Sylvia Kristel, of the Emmanuelle films and Private lessons, has died from complications of cancer at age 60. No surprise as her health has been in steady decline for a number of years now and she suffered a stroke back in June. Very sad to see though. I have memories as an 80s child hanging out at ...

Fox to remake Alien

This is the kinda news that makes you want to vomit. Saw this on Bloody Disgusting. Fox is fast tracking a remake of Alien complete with a first time director whose only experience is directing commericals and music videos. Remakes seem to be all the rage among studios (Disney and Fox) but have they...

:( L.A. Times reports that Black Christmas and Porky's director Bob Clark along with his 22 year old sun were killed yesterday in a drunk driving accident. Bob Clark and Eddie Robinson in less than 24 hours. How depressing.

Poltergeist and Heather O'Rourke

Just watched Poltergeist late last night. It's been a while since I've seen it but I can remember how this movie freaked me out when I was six. I think the line "They're here" ranks right up there with The Fly's "Be afraid, be very afraid" as perhaps the top two lines to come out...

the whole grunge killed metal debate

Ok, I know that this debate has been going on for who knows how long, but I want to put my two cents in. First of all, I listened (and still do) to the likes of both Motley Crue and Alice in Chains. There seems to be a debate that the Seattle grunge scene in the early 90s killed metal. Some say yes,...

Back problems and painkillers? That explains a lot. Doesn't surprise me at all. As for the media and Pantera's demise, who knows what the real story is.

Dario Argento to finish Three Mothers trilogy

This past summer, a long wait came to an end when George Romero released his fourth dead movie. Now another film that I've awaited and I'm sure many others have too is coming. Fangoria and Bloody Disgusting are both reporting that Dario Argento's next project will be the third film in the Three Moth...

Land dies at box office

My biggest fear about the film came to bear. I never liked the idea of bumping up the release date to June in the middle of the summer movie season. As much as I wanted to see Land, I felt that Universal didn't give Romero's new film enough time for marketing and promotion. The result? The film has ...

[quote="'Griff [Mola"]']I've heard those rumours of a 'chemical dependancy' but then I've heard them debunked by various sources many times. One particular assertion - that half of DAY's effects budget went up his nose - is fucking absurd. I always wondered if those rumors were true or not...

What happened to Tom Savini

It seems like eons ago when Tom Savini was a prominent name in horror with his ghastly make-up FX and memorable cameos (Sex Machine). Yet it seems like over the past ten years that Savini has fallen a long way from grace. Ever since he gave up doing FX, he hasn't been able to cut it either as an act...

trailer

Oh man, I can't wait. I mean its been 20 years and now the dead are back! I have one concern with the release date though. June isn't that far off. Is that enough time to market and promote the film? Maybe they'd have been better off waiting until July or August? Just a thought.
