Well it's not getting a cinema release in Australia until September and I've got a front projection setup at home, so purchasing the R2 DVD was no-brainer for me. Great movie too, my favourite so far this year. I haven't touched the extras on the disc yet, but it does look to be a good package. Whic...

I haven't had the chance to watch the new Last House DVD yet, but it would be pretty difficult for any film over 30 years old to have the same impact today for us horror fans. But I bet your average viewer would still be freaked out by it. I mean, I know people who think that shit like SCREAM 2 is t...

Um...OK, so it ain't such a hot movie. Many thanks. I'm not a Lenzi completist by any means and I've already got my eye on a long list of other stuff due this year anyway. I think Lenzi's got something like 60 films under his belt and word of mouth would indicate he's done more than his fair share o...

Hitcher In The Dark
This film by good old Umberto Lenzi is just one of many titles of interest scheduled to hit DVD this year. I haven't read much about it over the years but it sounds like quite a sleazy rip-off of THE HITCHER. Anyone seen it and recommend I put away some of my hard-earned for it?

Yes, the MPAA had problems with FRANKENHOOKER but I can't say for sure exactly what was cut. I think they had issues with the scenes showing people enjoying drug use but they basically just didn't get the joke. The version released down under is fully uncut and rated M. Maybe Frank had a fan in the ...

You'd have to expect Frankie would have several hundred twisted ideas for films given the length of time he's been absent from the director's chair. I am certainly looking forward to this one. I wonder what sort of budget and cast he'll get? Now if someone were to tell me there's a special edition o...

Geez, Griff, I thought for sure you'd be first in line for SWEPT AWAY. Not much on the big screen heh? I take it Mick Molloy's bowling club tale CRACKERJACK isn't getting a massive worldwide release in November then? RULES... isn't supposed to open around my way until mid November. Finding a copy of LHODES that wasn't a murky 4th generation bootleg was something of a Holy Grail for me back in the days of tape trading via contacts in the free Fangoria classifieds. Been looking forward to this disc for ages. I also think that a thread on another forum about director Jeff Lieberm...

I think I spent over a decade hoping STATIC would get released on tape in Oz after first reading a review of it in Shock Xpress. I finally snagged it on laserdisc for $10 during the formats last legs. KG and Brian Backer together, hey? Perhaps you could make do with a double bill of COMBAT ACADEMY a...

The Devils
As indicated in the article in the link below, Mark Kermode has unearthed all of the long lost cut footage from THE DEVILS. He states this footage might be included in a TV program to air on Channel 4 in Britain. However, I'm also betting there are plans to put together a special edition DVD of THE ...

The next BAISE MOI?
Sounds like IRREVERSIBLE will probably get the BAISE MOI treatment down here in Australia. That is, our right wing christian groups will succeed in getting it banned.... Robert, please keep the reviews coming. There were quite a few titles screened at TIFF of interest to me. CABIN FEVER is one of th...

While it doesn't open in Australia until Halloween, I've been keen on this ever since finding out it was the long awaited (by me anyway) return of writer/director Mark Romanek to the big screen after the excellent STATIC from way back in 1985. STATIC starred Keith Gordon (who also co-wrote) as a you...

Nice to see I'm not the only one wishing for a DVD of RAZORBACK and I'll bet there's an enormous amount of people hoping for a special ed of ALLIGATOR. A few more that immediately spring to mind are: NORTHVILLE CEMETERY MASSACRE - great biker/gore movie from (believe it or not) the director of Harry...

I've been debating about picking up Tartan's DOA disc also, but I'm not in any rush since I recently saw it on the big screen. All online reviews and various forum postings I've read indicate the Tartan DVD is the uncut version. There's been more news on the Dutch ICHI disc as well. It's going to be...

That's good news, as long as the Robbery/Subway sequence is put back into the film and isn't just included as a supplement. Hopefully they'll include the original cut and the extended version on the disc flipside or do that seamless branching to incorporate it. The laserdisc commentary for EFNY is m...

Joe Christ
Has anyone seen any of the films by, or know anything about a filmmaker called Joe Christ? I remember seeing ads for his short films in the early issues of Film Threat (and also perhaps Psychotronic Video), but never found reviews of his work or an interview with the guy himself. I think some of the...

Oh yeah, this is a personal favourite of mine, although my choice for best Walter Hill film would be SOUTHERN COMFORT. There's a great comic book feel to the THE WARRIORS and the opening sequence really sets the film up nicely. The gang dressed as mimes always gets a reaction whenever I show this mo...
