Its important to consider that alotta scenes are played out in very long takes with the actors memorizing many pages of dialogue - often without the aid of editors to add in those extra beats and dramatic close-ups we've become so use to 'enhancing' mainstream performances. It simply doesn't subscri...

TURISTAS might have been a December 2006 release but I'm sure only Remo managed to catch it before the year was out. I dunno, I just think that if you're gonna try and craft a serious and suspenseful horror movie, you'd better have the chops to pull it off because there's nothing duller than sufferi...

Thanks for the rundown, guys. Following up such an exhaustive overview is more than slightly intimidating - with my limited sampling of this years delights, I don't know what I could possibly add. Its a good thing I've got you guys and movie viewing log here to remind me what I was lucky (or unlucky...

While this release might be far from ideal, its still very watchable - something that can't be said for the boots I've come across. You can find a detailed comparison between the better known versions here:

Its not merely a case of a changed ending (afterall, the survivors are essentially mindless and Neville barely has any conflict with them, so that ending wouldn't be suitable even if they had the balls to do it) but one of downright thematic betrayal. To me, what they've done is tantamount to taking...

Crap, crap, crap. SPOILERS Once again, Roberth Neville is depicted as a saviour, a man who, through the ultimate act of self-sacifice, made it possible for civilized humankind to once again flourish in a savage world. This is the complete opposite of the novel and an absolute affront to central them...

OMEGA MAN was based on Richard Matheson's book, 'I Am Legend' and, as long as you were faithful to the incredible original story, it wouldn't be hard to top OMEGA MAN.

But I can't see that happening with this latest adaptation. Still, my fingers will be crossed until Remo gives us the skinny.

What constitutes uncut? I have a bootleg from a couple of years ago that is quite violent. Here's the uncut version of the classic raft massacre sequence: (SPOILERS - if you haven't seen the movie, DON'T watch this) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ra7iJna4MxU If your copy includes all that carnage, ...

Yeah, I enjoyed it but it's boasts of being 'old school American horror' and 'original' are a bit dangerous. HATCHET is a bunch of silly fun that borrows from the backwoods slasher flicks of the 80's. Its got some great kills and nudity to match but is far too light hearted to warrant the kinda &quo...

I think a Canadian mob, Gaslight Studios, did the effects but Nicotero 'supervised'. Its not a gorefest but it doesn't shy away from the stuff, either. I guess its more to do with the nature of the film: handheld camera work, simulating an off-the-cuff shooting style - rather than a deliberate attem...

George A. Romero's DIARY OF THE DEAD

Wow. Can't believe there isn't a thread for this one. Just got back from the world premiere and I'm happy to announce that DIARY is a winner. Its clever, its fun, its just a wonderful little movie and it should shut alot of annoying fuckers up, once and for all. I suspect the filmmakers knew they ha...

re: the GRINDHOUSE debacle. Remo, spare a thought for your foreign brethren who didn't even get to see the original double-bill version, theatrically or otherwise, and indeed won't get to see the stand-alone versions theatrically until months after the DVDs have come out in North America. Wrong inde...

Its totally uncut. From my understanding, they used the same transfer that was done for the MonstersHD broadcast last year. I saw it and it was a revelation. There's also apparently an audio commentary with the director and the obligatory bit on Tom Savini and his priceless contribution. Buy with co...

I'm a huge fan of the Siegel and Kaufman versions and found the Ferrara exercise enjoyable also. Now, the fact that I have zero interest in checking this out indicates a real fuck up on somebody's behalf cos if they can't attract the build-in audience, they're already in trouble. So after BODY SNATC...

I saw it too and also thought it was wonderful. A zombie(-esque) action movie that thankfully didn't forget the horror. Quite probably the best of its ilk, in recent years.
