from what i understand the DVD is the same old "R" rated cut. I have a japanese prerecord of the film and i can attest that a lot of gore is missing from this version, making it essentially worthless.

The CIC print and the French (and Dutch) DVD are slightly different. The DVDs include some onscreen title cards taht aren't on the tape. I would personally hold out for MGMs DVD to see what they turn up.

The later Zombie disc will (supposedly) be loaded with xtras. As for Zombi Holocaust - they're producing the disc with full co-operation from Roy Frumkes, and the Tales To Tear Your Heart Out footage will be on there as a supplement (with commentary), which i think is stupid. I would MUCH rather hav...

it's a very faithful and intense recreation of the actual events, but unfortunately becomes a bit hypocritical with it's inclusion of modern day gangs murderin' for Manson... (the film purports to cast an unbiased eye on the proceedings but loses it's edge with these characters - how can you be unbi...

it's playing at my local multiplex too, i caught it last night. it's a nice stylish feature, but the fu choreography was a let down. As for this: "THE BEAST WAS ACTUALLY A HYENA!!!! " Yeah, in legend the beast is assumed to be a hyena (which at that time no one in France would have ever seen), but i...

Pass on Anchor Bay's Zombie rerelease - it's the same exact disc as their old one, but with a new cover. A much better US disc should be out within the next year. As for Dr Butcher - it's actually just the Zombi Holocaust version, but I'm still trying to persuade Shriek Show into including both edit...

Mountains of the Cannibal Gods - AB vs EC

I did a quick side-by-side of Anchor Bay's Mountain of the Cannibal God to EC’s import version and noted the following: - EC's disc actually seems sharper than it’s American counterpart (with the exception of the opening and closing credits, which I assume were taken from an inferior print - presuma...

i talk to Dave Kosanke on a regular basis and he's now a welcome part of our new and improved Team Ultra Violent. You'll be able to read his reviews in upcoming issues (including the horribly delayed issue 4 which'll actually be going to the printers by the end of the week!). He's been working a lot...

I personally loved Erotic Nights of the Living Dead, i think it contains some of the best Italian zombie scenes ever filmed. ALL current prints of Erotic Nights are missing the true XXX footage. the current worldwide owner and distributer of the film doesn't want to be known as a porn merchant and h...

Ian pretty much dropped off the face of the planet. he doesn't answer his old email account, his old phone number isn't his anymore, and i haven't seen any newsgroup posts ANYWHERE from him. I know him and his wife split up, but i dunno what happened after that. perhaps she owned the computer?

Shiri - Overrated?

Well, I finally got around to watching Shiri last night and I have to say: What the hell was all the fuss about? It’s a well-made film, with good acting, pyrotechnics, etc, but there’s not really much of anything to set it apart from a well-made American action film, except it stars a bunch of Korea...

Grindhouse's DVD will be the ultimate version of Cannibal Holocaust, and if you buy any other version you're wasting your money. Even if another company manages to match the picture quality of the film itself (which will be tough, Grindhouse went back and digitally remastered it from the original ne...

"Bloodsucking Pharoahs. This is one of the worst "packed" DVDs I've seen. The print appears to be taken directly from an old video, and all the X-rated Savini effects are only included as supplements, not re-inserted into the movie. To make things worse, there're two clocks on all of those scenes. W...

the more i think about Vanilla Sky the less i like it. I personally felt a few points were "pounded" home for US audiences instead of duplicating the relatively ambiguous nature of the original - a shame too, because Open Your Eyes is one of the more effective films i've seen in the last few years (...
