R.I.P Ossie Davis and Paul Partain

According to Fangoria, Paul Partain, who played the wheelchair-bound Franklin of Texas Chainsaw Massacre died at 58 due to complications from cancer. Also, Ossie Davis, who most recently played the black JFK alongside Bruce Campbell in Bubba Ho-Tep, died in a hotel room at age 87.

Alone in the Dark failed to crack even the top 20 this weekend. The film's already a disaster as it's not even going to come close to breaking even with its $20 million budget. I predict that if BloodRayne is equally bad, Boll will lose the financing on any future projects and will likely be relegat...

Love Object

I actually got to see this when it was in limited release. A good movie with a good performance from Desmond Harrington. And yes, the ending was great. Nice to see Udo Kier again too.

You're thinking of Jaws 3 with Dennis Quaid. Jaws: The Revenge starred Lance Guest and Michael Caine.

Alone in the Dark . . . bad, real bad

I don't know how I did it, but I managed to stomach sitting through Uwe Boll's newest garbage. I went into the film, thinking that it would be bad, but surely Boll learned something from the House of the Dead debacle. I was dead wrong. All I can say about the film is, we have a leading candidate for...

Dimension sucks!!!

I left the theatre after seeing Darkness thinking what could've been. Dimension has made an ugly habit of opting for the PG-13 rating to make the extra buck. As a result, they ruined the film. Dimension is apparently cutting Wes Craven's newest flick, Cursed, down to PG-13 also. Hey Wes, here's some...

The Grudge

I just got back from seeing this tonight. I still prefer Ju-On to this one although I'll give Shimizu credit for not "Americanizing" the film by turning it into a cheesefest. This film would've been utter shit if Sam Raimi handed the directing key to some commercials hotshot.

Uwe Boll . . . challenging Ed Wood?

An interesting thought. I believe that Uwe Boll is trying to challenge Ed Wood for the title of "worst director in the history of Hollywood." I'm not just basing this on the shitpile known as House of the Dead. Early advance on his next video game-to-movie Alone in the Dark says that it co...

casting

Here's some casting info. Dennis Hopper, John Leguizamo, Asia Argento, Robert Joy, and Tom Savini have all been cast for the film though what roles they will play are still unknown.

Also, KNB FX, headed up by Day of the Dead's Greg Nicotero (a Savini protege) will handle all the blood and guts.

paul w.s. anderson and uwe boll

No doubt about it. Anderson fits right alongside Uwe Boll when it comes to royally fucking things up. AVP a Pg-13 movie? What the hell was he thinking? Actually, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Anderson had a darker R rated version ready to go, but the white collar assholes who foot the bil...

crash and burn

I have yet to see this. I enjoyed Pitch Black so I'll likely catch Riddick. However, based on its opening weekend box office tally, the wreckage around Vin Diesel is becoming harder to ignore. The film only took in 24 million opening weekend. Riddick probably won't go much farhter than the 40 millio...

Club Dread

I really liked Super Troopers, I have it on DVD and was really looking forward to Broken Lizard's next outing. I was surprisingly disappointed. I really thought they could pull this off, it felt like they tried too hard. Some decent gore, but not the laughs like Super Troopers. It tries to dance the...

Finally, a remake that works

I have to admit I had my doubts going into this movie. I remember what happened when Gus Van Sant remade Psycho. Alfred Hitchcock was probably turning over in his grave when that came out. Then came Tom Savini's Night of the Living Dead which showed why Savini is a makeup artist, not a director, and...

Cabin Fever? . . . Catch it!

I was expecting Cabin Fever to be a complete ripoff of Evil Dead. Boy was I wrong. The film delivers with great FX by Nicotero and Kurtzman. The film has the feel of one of the old 70s horror flicks. Hell, you had to like director Eli Roth's reference to Last House on the Left. Those who've seen the...

Gacy

I picked this one up the other day and I must say I was very disappointed. I've read a couple of books on John Wayne Gacy and much of what is talked about in books is not mentioned in the film. For example, Gacy was bisexual, he was abused as a child, and the murders he committed were done in a biza...

good but not a classic

For what it's worth, I went in expecting to see a good horror film and I wasn't disappointed. I wouldn't go as far as to say House of 1000 Corpses will become a cult classic as some claimed it would but its certainly worth the price of admission. It's also a helluva lot better than some of the crap ...

A few I forgot

I actually forgot a few that I didn't mention earlier. DREAMCATCHER - For Stephen King, Dreamcatcher was almost more sci-fi than horror, but that certainly doesn't diminish its quality. I read the book and think this could turn out to be quite a good one, if done properly. All the pieces are in plac...

Looking ahead to 2003

Ok, so we're already a month into 2003 but after a 2002 was a dismal year for horror here's hoping thast 2003 goes better. A couple of these films were on my list last year and didn't get released. MAY - I've heard some good reviews on this one. Anyone else seen it? Shame it's only got a limited rel...

George Romero and Fox part ways

Looks like George Romero's attempt to get his fourth living dead film up have hit another snag. Fox studios and Romero have parted ways after disagreements apparently on issues like budget and creative differences. Romero simply won't budge on final cut. He wants his movies done his way or the high ...

final destination 2

I wasn't expecting much when I went to this one but I'll say, though far from a classic, FD2 is actually an improvement on the original. I was pleased to see the director push the envelope and go for the R rating. The death scenes are great, and the final scene is absolutely hilarious. I won't say w...

2002 was a disappointing year for horror. I thought the best of the bunch were Blade 2 and The Ring. Among the worst, Ghost Ship, Swimfan, Abandon, and FearDotCom. Here's hoping 2003 is better.
