I've been voting since the days of ol' Bill but this was the first election I really cared about. I'm glad things turned out the way the did.

The first states that came in were for McCain. I was a little worried, but... we saw how that turned out. Electoral Landslide? Maybe a new drink in the works...

First time I ever voted. Glad that I did.

But dont do what I did (or maybe you will) and turn the election coverage into a drinking game. Ouch.

McCain's concession speech was beautiful and glorious.

Obama's was cheesy as shit. I mean, i'm glad he won and all, but really? That speech was awful, and fuck that catch phrase.

well, NC is too close to call still. Though in my hometown, Obama has 76% of the votes! Sweet. Dino is out. And it looks like they're going to ban gay marriage which reeeeeaaaally pisses me off. California: We look blue on the outside, but really, we just want to control your personal lives by telling you who you can love. Ugh.

And I liked Obama's speech as well. It gave me hope.

Was anyone else really glad that he was behind bulletproof glass?

Yes. There are a lot of rednecks that are outraged that a "colored boy" named Barack Hussein Obama will be president. I'm sure there will be assassination plots. I hope none succeed though. I voted for this guy and I want him to stay for 8 years!

I thought it was a good beginning, too. Of course, there will be those who are sufficiently upset that he won that they wouldn't find it especially uplifting (recall the boos in the McCain crowd that weren't echoed in the Obama crowd) pretty much no matter what. All in all, though, he really set the stage for some fairly important things. Catch phrases and slogans are helpful in capturing the attention of a mob of people, and the notion of him working with us -- yes we can as opposed to yes I can -- will have a multitude of uses in future speaches.

Yes! It took a while to notice the bullet proof glass, but very much yes! He is about the biggest target I can imagine at this point. Reminds me of a Far side cartoon with two deer talking. The caption was "Bummer of a birthmark, Hal." As much as anything, I hope he can survive being President.

How could you not be? This election was blue blue blue. It got us far away from Bush administration policies. Give it a chance, ya glam rocker. :)

See you Friday, BTW.

It's good that everyone feels so good about it, but it doesn't change the fundamental problems that face our country. Obama is just as beholden to corporate interests as McCain, he supports globalization, he won't be talking seriously about reducing the influence of the military industrial complex (if he knows what is good for him) and our country will still force a pax americana on the rest of the world in order to consume their resources with a minimum of hassle. When I see some serious movement towards changing any of this I'll be happy to congratulate the Dems on their victory. Until then... Eh.. it's just another day.

In Obama's own words: "To those -- to those who would tear the world down: We will defeat you. To those who seek peace and security: We support you."

How do you tell if you are trying to tear the world apart or if you seek peace and security? It's easy! If you back american policy no matter how fucked then you seek peace and security!

Don't get me wrong, I like the man and I probably would have voted for him if Washington mattered at all in this election, but I think people are getting a little over the top about his win.

The Dem party at the Westin last night was a kick in the ass though, it was extremely emotional and impressive. A hell of a lot better than the morgue that it was in '04!!!

Looking forward to friday! I LOVE Bellingham!

The biggest misconception of them all: "This is a Christian Nation".

No it isn't. This nation was NOT founded on Christian principles like WAY too many people claim. According to the history books that I read, this nation was founded by people who were sick and tired of having things like religion shoved down their throats.

Racial and religious intolerance irritate the fuck out of me.

That surprised me, considering what a baby he was about it last time.

I gained a LOT of respect for McCain as a human being after his concession speech. He's a really good person, but I'm glad he lost.

You are right in the sense that it will be a long journey to positive change, but every journey begins with a single step. This was that one step. I fully believe that this country will in much better shape after he's done his terms.

Planet of the Apes.........

If Lee would have just attempted a flank attack instead of a full frontal assault on Seminary Ridge, on day three of Gettysburg, this wouldn't be happening right now: or at least not in eleven of our states.

Obama is a socialist and a lying politician that has convinced everyone he is the second coming of Christ.

I'm a libertarian/anarcho-capitalist so I would not have been happy with McCain and Alaska MILF Barbie either, but this is ridiculous.
