i work in tobacco, so my job aint going anywhere. in fact, i just got a promotion. my wife works in construction and their business hasn't slowed one bit. we still dont make much, but we're getting by.

I work for Symantec and just dodged two bullets - outsourcing and a 4.5% worldwide workforce reduction. This even though they pulled in buttloads of revenue last quarter. Gotta keep the shareholders happy... fuckers.

That is precicely why I left my last job. Our company was bought out by Walgreens, and EVERYTHING they did was to fatten the bottom line for the shareholders. I'm hoping there's a silver lining in this SOMEWHERE.
I've been pretty unhappy since about a year into the job, and was looking elsewhere as it was. It's just shitty how they went about it. My boss said the decision came from above his head, and that the company decided that security no longer serves a viable business function.
That being said, kicking a bunch of people to the street is bound to piss some people off... and now they've got NOBODY to deal with the influx of disgruntled ex-employees.

There have been rumors floating around that Symantec might be interested in purssuing Quantum. Problem with Quantum is they're so far in debt and stock is at like $0.25 it's not an appealing company. Quantum has been one fuck up after another for the last 10 years. Their in debt big time and decided to buy ADIC for $75 million hoping they can reagain. Nope, didn't work that way.
If Symantec decides to go for Quantum with a huge bebt then you may want to keep an eye on what's going on.
