Stuff to do in Vegas?

Post by SLAM TV »

Never been. I have a week starting the 26th. Suggestions? I have the new Nikon coming just for the trip-- good photo subjects/areas etc?

1. Hookers, coke, shameless gambling and free booze!

2. Cirque du Soleil. Worth the expensive ticket.

3. Be sure to hop in a cab on one of the evenings and have him drive you down to Fremont street to see the canopy light show. It's badass:

Considering this thread (when I clicked it) was right above the Butt Sex thread... that may be a sign of things to come.... no pun intended.

And if you want a REAL strip club experience, do yourself a favor and go to THE PALOMINO. It's in "Old Vegas", and is grandfathered in under the "Old Laws" regarding what can and cannot transpire within a strip club.

I'm not talking about prostitution, by the way. I'm talking about some TRULY talented ladies doing things you've only heard about from your friends who have been to the Phillipines!

I second the Palomino. Unfortunately, the Satin Saddle (world's greatest strip club name) next door is now a sports bar, but there's an old-skool casino right across the street if you get the gamblin' fever afterwards. The best club in the olden days was the original Crazy Horse on Paradise near the airport, but it's long gone now.

The fountains at the Bellagio are pretty cool, especially at night. FWIW, the buffet at the Bellagio is probably the best in town. At $35 a head, it should be :) . Keep in mind when getting directions from someone that a Vegas "block" is about 1 mile, so "a couple blocks that way" = a cab ride. If you are going to hang on the strip, I definitely recommend getting a monorail pass.

I'm sportin' a surgical incision that would make a lap dance an exercise in masochism, so there'll be lots of cab ridin. Good photographic subjects (the Bellagio is on the list) off the strip?

I believe that casino is called The Nugget.

And Shark Reef at The Mirage is pretty goddamned cool, too!

By the way, traveling by cab in Vegas will drain your wallet faster than ANY slot machine, card table or strip club! I second Pat's advice regarding a monorail pass.

Another thing that's REALLY cool to do while you're there is to take the short drive over to Lake Mead & Hoover Dam.

Everytime we go to Vegas, our bassist hits up a small casino at the end of the Strip called Slots of Fun. Good tables and free(?) drinks, not too crazy either.

Just make sure that when you take a cab:

A- If possible, tell the driver the exact route. Drivers there are notorious for taking longer routes to increase your fare.

B- Always carry some 5's and 1's in your wallet so you don't have to depend on getting any change from the driver. I have had drivers on more than one occasion claim that they had no change for a 20, and if the bill was $25 and all you had were 20's in your wallet... They'd happily just take 2 of them and claim they couldn't give you change.

I think I have to be the only person in the States who holds close to no fascination with Vegas. I guess if I was there with "the guys" it could prove to be entertaining but at the same time I enjoy that just as much at the local watering hole watching a football game. I suppose I'd have a different opinion if I were younger and single. Otherwise, it seems to be a mass waste of money surrounded by way too many people.

Apparently you are unfamiliar with the fact that hot chicks on vacation are EASY :) Vegas and Honolulu seem to bring out the sluttiness more than most vacation destinations. Must be the heat.

a great photo op on the fountains is at the top of the eiffel tower across the street, it's crazy to watch from up there. and the sherwood forest cafe in the excalibur has a kick ass $7 steak dinner.

There are tours of the grand canyon that will pick you up at your resort and take you home.

The Tropicana is at the end of the strip, it hosts the Bodies exhibit and the Titanic exhibit, the last time I was there in spring. Both of these are under $30 and very worth the money and time. You do not have the luxury of the monorail being at your doorstep, you will have to travel over to the Excalibur to catch it. The Deuce is a public bus 24 hour pass for $5. Worth it durring the day may be impossible to catch at night. But this is definately a slow time, so you probably will be ok. Monorail is always on time and room.

The Nine Fine Irishmen in NY NY is fun, good food, but like anything else expensive. $8-9 for a guiness. There is a one man band there blonde long haired named Micheal, funny as shit.

The Hilton has the Star Trek experience. Go in there and order a specialty drink and you'll be there for at least an hour trying to get it in the belly. So worth it.

I would recomend buying liquor at a store or taking with you down there. Much cheaper and if you can down a few before you leave and take one for the road it's great. I have even seen people walking around drinking straight from their liquor bottle.... I did seem to find myself having an elevation problem and having a very high tollerance not being able to get "drunk" in Vegas..... That was until we hit the jackpot and found an open bar with free well drinks.

There is a smaller casino inbetween the Flamingo and the Bally's it's called Binyons (?). The best prime rib in town for hella cheap ($10) and it's good. Don't get confused on which restraunt when inside it is. It's the one straight back from the strip and shouldn't have doors, I do believe it was located next to customer service.

Have fun!

Ellis Island - a little place near Bally's - brews their own $1 beers. They have a $5 steak and beer too. But honestly, if you're only getting drunk there you're missing out.

The people mover was fun too.

I recommend the coke and the X. Just rent a hotel room and spend the whole vacation in the bathroom. Now that's a get a way.
