I'm also currently trying to fight my way through The Gunslinger, but it's very difficult. It's just confusing and not very interesting and I think the fact that I just spent two years reading the entire Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind, the best fantasy series ever, has made The Gunslinger pale in comparison.

I'm currently reading Illusions; The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach on the recommendation of a couple friends with a very similar outlook on life as me.

I tried to read those, I really did. I read the first one and thought I was gonna claw my face off by the end. I just wanted it to end and couldn't imagine myself going on. Perhaps I will give the second book a chance since I know all you dudes like 'em.

I know Mike somehow made it through The Gunslinger and is onto the second book and sullenly admitted that he likes it, so suffer through the first and then try the second to see if you want to continue on to the tower. :D I think you might. :)

I know I thought I wouldn't like them, but am kicking myself for not starting them sooner. I really had no issue with The Gunslinger. Chewed through it in a day or two. Maybe I'm just accustomed to King's style? Maybe I'm just wacky. :D

He already knows what I think and being that he usually says he doesn't like reading much anyway, I was surprised to hear he started it at all. I've been telling him for years to read them. haha

Again though Kev, the story does pick up with the second book. :)

i have a hard time believing it's better than jordan's wheel of time series. i've been through that one twice now and eagerly await the last book.

BWWWHHHHHAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA..

I am looking into getting him one of these so he can read to himself.

When he gets to the point where he can't see at all, maybe then I will read to him, but there is only so many times that I can read Hop on Pop, and The Cat in the Hat. Fox in Sox on the other hand I can read a million times and never get bored. Oh and The Giving Tree.

You should try listening to audiobooks. My wife listens to them all the time on her iPod. She usually downloads them from http://www.audible.com and says that rarely can she not find a title that she's looking for there.

Just a suggestion.

That's how I roll. I listen to them in the car, doing dishes, cleaning the house, going for walks. I just dont have time to read very much anymore. So audiobooks are a necessity for me because I still want to have a good story in my mind.

Just for the record, I may have at one point said I don't like reading but it's totally not true anymore. <3 reading.

Just not The Gunslinger, and it's not so much the story as it is King's style. The way he uses so many short, vague phrases makes it really hard to pay attention enough to understand what's going on.

I'm 2/3rds of the way through it and all I can gather so far is that the dude's a loner and he's chasing some guy in black.

I just finished King's 'On Writing' and started on Chuck Pahlaniuk's 'Snuff'. I'm also about halfway through a book called 'The Undead Kama Sutra' by Mario Acevedo, which is just fucking goofy. Aliens, Vampire private investigators, and tits. Good times.

Just finished The Golden Compass and I'll be starting book II, The Subtle Knife in a few minutes. You guys were right. It's been like crack the past few days to have time to read it!

And. What's the deal with Lyra's Oxford? Is that actually a 4th book? I'll have to hunt that down in the next several days too.

Illusions is easily one of my fav books of all time!! I love most of Richard Bach's books! I'm currently about to finish "Sacred Adventures of the Peaceful Warrior" the second book in the series and will be starting "Adventures of Socrates" soon.

I also was just given "All aboard the Crazy Train" by Rudy Sarzo from the man himself and it's all about his time playing with Ozzy and Randy Rhoads....looking forward to it as it's out of my normal reading genres.
