Thrash or Death?

Post by FistOfMetal »

Which do you like the most?

It's a very tough question for me because I love both, but I'd have to say thrash. :metalhead

What about bands that do both? Doesn't that make them rule all!? Well, im going to go with death metal but really as long as its fits what im into im going to listen to it. Its all extreme metal to me. But my favorite bands ever are death metal, save for a few that i consider to be just plain heavy fucking metal.

Thrash by far. I used to hate death bands more then even rapcore because I saw it as a watering down of thrash. The vocals sounded flat and the riffs were so sped up that the definition and depth were lost. Now I am more open minded about it. I like a few death bands, but I still hate most of it. I still think music does not get any better then the old school thrash of the early 90's.

Good to see you on here Luke! I'm going with Death Metal. Although up until I saw a few bands live, I always was the thrash man myself... people change.

McDonalds bathrooms give the tape that great acoustics feel. The only true Black Metal is recorded in the garbage dumpster BEHIND the Mcdonalds.

Speaking in very general terms: thrash takes traditional metal up a notch, makes it heavier, harsher and faster. Death metal takes thrash up a notch yet again, being heavier, faster, and more brutal.
Examples:

Thrash: Testament, early Metallica and Megadeth, Destruction, Overkill
Death metal: Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse, Sinister, Morbid Angel
I have to return some videotapes.

Death metal. thrash is good, but there's little variation within the genere (within reason of course... i understand not all thrash is the same). Death metal has more freedom. slow sludgy death metal, hyperfast death metal, wide range of vocal delivery... yeah, that's for me.
Death to false metal! It is sacrilege! Give me metal or give me DEATH!
