Am gonna look for the GH3 tracks tonight and see how they differ in fidelity.

I think the snare is WAY hot!

"Ted Jensen, the engineer who mastered the album at Sterling Sound in New York, recently responded to fan complaints that the CD is too loud and the audio is pushed to distortion levels by writing, "I'm certainly sympathetic to your reaction, I get to slam my head against that brick wall every day. In this case the mixes were already brick-walled before they arrived at my place. Suffice to say I would never be pushed to overdrive things as far as they are here. Believe me, I'm not proud to be associated with this one, and we can only hope that some good will come from this in some form of backlash against volume above all else."

Although the GHIII definately sound better, who cares? The retail version could be better, but it's not "St. Anger" horrible. In general, "Death Magnetic" has some great songs on it & that's all I care about.

Am loading up the GH3 tracks now ...

I am more curious to see how big this petition for a remix grows, and how the band addresses it after their engineers start backing away from the bad press, etc.

I'm signer # 13,448!! ;)

Here's a pretty good writeup from one of the engineers from the "Black Album." Pretty inciteful.

I think the album is pretty good. The snare IS pretty hot in the mix, but in some places it fits right in. Besides, Metallica won't remix Death Magnetic any more than they would remix Justice... or St. Anger (which Lars has recently said they thought about but decided not to), so I'm not gonna worry about it.

Exactly, Blake. I'm still crankin' it....flaws & all.
