Well it seems that a new Russ Meyer movie has finally seen the light of day. It is the video with Pandora Peaks that he has mentioned in interviews (along with other "in-works" projects) over the years. I actually got it awhile back, but I only now got around to watching it. The verdict....

Anyone that has followed Meyer's interviews over the past two decades will know that he has made references to several projects he had "in progress". The most ambitious was an epic autobiographical film (running 10 to 12 hours in length) titled THE BREAST OF RUSS MEYER. Aside from the video featuring Pandora Peaks, he has also mentioned the possibility of MONDO TOPLESS 2.

This latest release can best be summed up as a combination of all of the above projects. Russ supposedly scrapped BRM a few years back and decided at that point to recycle the footage he shot in other features. That's precisely what happens here. While the film is basically a showcase on the talents of Pandora Peaks, the movie is also autobiographical in nature. At various points in this 70 minute video, we see Russ' house as well as some of the locations he has visited in his life (including Germany). The movie also features Hungarian beauty Tundi Mounds (her voice obviously overdubbed by Uschi Digard) as well as some scenes of Candy Samples. The Handyman (from EVE AND THE HANDYMAN) also makes an appearance. The narration is pretty much a throwback to MONDO TOPLESS, intercutting the histories of various locations with Pandora and Tundi commenting on their bodies and personal lives. It may all seem confusing at first, but Meyer fans will no doubt be rewarded by the end.

As for being Meyer's first "new" feature in over 20 years, I just have to say it is nice to see the guy still at work. Although not up to the Meyer classics like SUPERVIXENS and FASTER PUSSYCAT! KILL! KILL!, it is still a lot of fun for Meyer fans (not to mention better than most of the crap out there today) and definitely worth checking out. Those who are unfamiliar with Meyer's work may find themselves scratching their heads though. Now if only Russ will finish that Melissa Mounds video he also promised Image

On a side note, I also ordered Russ' HUGE autobiography (which has been out for over a year now) and hope to recieve it by the end of the week. Can't wait to check it out.
