The Item

I recommend the new Artisan release The Item from Filmmaker Dan Clarke. It's about a bunch of criminals that acquire a metal box containing a psychic parasite. They must keep it overnight for a mysterious client. Good writing, good characterizations and mostly very decent performances elevate this indie scifi/horror/action film.

Decent amount of blood, too. It has a cheesy looking monster and is marred a bit by an ambiguous ending. Otherwise decent film. Better than the average direct to video crap, at least.
