Savini's NOTLD had its problems, sure, but there's plenty to love in that movie.

Pretty much everything of Barbara and Ben in the house (ie. the stuff Savini was able to shoot the way he wanted to shoot it) is outstanding and, I believe, very heavily influenced the atmosphere of the Resident Evil games - moreso than any other zombie flick I can think of.

Too bad the rest of the thing was compromised - it could've really given the original a run for its money in the entertainment stakes.

all i gotta say is...

agreed. And it was even better the third time!

And I like the "baby" scene. (in response to Al Shevy's review) Yea it was way over the top, but it needed to be, I wouldn't have changed a thing... I do see what Al is saying but I still thought it was cool -shawn

im plannin on going again...:)

my take on the baby scene...its not the events that made me go "thats fucked up" (even tho it was) it was the guys mindset that made it fucked up (at least to me)...and knowing that are people out there that would prolly actually do something that fuckin stupid...yeah...

BABY STILL GOT NO BACK

Ive seen it 3 times now myself and that scene still pisses me off. And Muc hit it on the head. Its not the scene itself it's that IDIOT FATHER. AND to think that there are people that would do that is what gets me.

DEAD is DEAD. They should have had him let his old lady bite him so he could be ZOMBIE DAD. Then when they went to check on them they could have had the little zombie family eating dinner. The mom and dad munching on some dead body and the baby chewing on the zombie moms tit. Just chewing it up. Then they could have blasted the shit out of the ZOMBIE FAMILY and that was that. Now thats SICK and FUNNY. HAHAHA

Later
Al

guess this is a spoiler

Well I saw that scene differently, I felt the father thought there was a chance or some hope that the baby could be delivered healthy before it died, or at least a chance anyway. Put I think that scene will be talked about for awhile to come. Dumb or not its gonna be a classic scene like the chick getting raped by the trees in Evil Dead...

I've had zombie dreams for many years, they are one of my favorites :)

Saw the movie two more times yesterday for a total of three times. I think that will do me until the DVD comes out :)

I'm going for a fourth time as soon as I can get some free time... Anybody got a boot of this? Or know where I can get one? The early screenings of the film were uncut, I'm hoping someone out there has an uncut version of this, I'm just afraid Universal won't have the balls to put it out unrated on DVD, hope they do but ya never know...

There's a boot floating around the bit torrent communities now, but it's a cam, which means it's just some jackass in the audience with a video camera. I'm sure some SVCDs will come along soon that are at least a telesync, but I wouldn't bet on seeing an uncut boot floating around the internet.

I'm confident that the DVD will be uncut when it comes.

There's a telesync out there already but its mean to look like a dog's cum sandwich so I'd wait a little and keep your eyes on http://www.vcdquality.com.

I sure as hell ain't waiting five months to see this movie.

I gotta say this movie beats the original without a doubt.I've ben in aseveral debates on this films on other forums over the zombies people like to bitch about them being to fast but when you watch the other zombie movies what's so scary about a zombie that moves 1mph? nothing, I like how the director went into a different direction with these zombies, he added more suspense to the film wich made it alot better than alot of other zombie flicks.

You'd be the first one bit with an attitude like that, smart guy.

More than likely.

Well, there's scarcely anything for me to add here--you've covered all the bases quite nicely!

But if you want to know what I thought of it, just for the record? I liked it. I didn't utterly, unconditionally LOVE it, but I certainly found it entertaining, and I was quite pleased to see that someone was able to deliver a fast, intense, juicy zombie film to an audience that others thought would accept having something like HOUSE OF THE DEAD shoved down their throats.

Yes, perhaps there were too many characters to build up any real empathy--and some elements seemed to be extra episodes picked up from different stories. But this was all done in the name of delivering the goods and skimping on nothing.

As for it being a remake? True--the best thing to do is just let it be itself, as there's very little resemblance--but it's not entirely UNFAIR to make comparisons when the title and the in-joke cameos and references practically BEG you to (like PLANET OF THE APES, I would venture). And on that level, I still think Romero's film had the better script and characters, and I didn't mind when the film slowed down to spend quiet time with them, either. The new DAWN showed strength in other departments, however--there's plenty of room for everyone at this point, and I'm not complaining. But if I WERE complaining...

Only at the end did I feel some disappointment. Look--we're past all the spoiler alerts, right? I'm not going to mess this movie up for anyone, correct?

Never mind that the end credits were nearly impossible to READ. I have enough trouble with red on black--but when it's being blended with grainy, shaky camcorder distortion? Fugeddaboutit. More to the point, I felt the finale was unnecessarily mean-spirited. Romero didn't supply unconditional happy endings--don't get me wrong. Peter and Fran head off in the helicopter--very little fuel--uncertain future, and simply say "All right." Now that's an ending. I think the new DAWN should have cut off just before the boat reached the island. The found footage on the camcorder was fine, but there's precious little point in bringing the survivors this far if you're just planning to squash them. Just a LITTLE hope for humanity. Just something to pull for, even if the happy ending isn't anywhere in sight. That, I feel, would truly give the payoff needed here--people shouldn't walk out of this one thinking "What's the point?"

There you have it--but as with TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE before it, this is much better than any remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD has a right to be!

Everyone I know sucks, I can't get anyone to see this film with me... I'll be checking it out when I get some free time towards the end of the week. I'm really confused as to why some of the people I know don't want to see this.. My girlfriend loves horror movies but shes says "it looks stupid" or the infamous "you couldn't pay me to see that"..

My friend is all like "I have no fucking desire to see that movie man, looks like shit!" Instead, what do we see? THAT FUCKING JIM CARRY MOVIE.. I HAD NEVER BEEN SO BORED IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. I'm not letting him pick movies again, last time he picked "The Core", what a waste of fucking time. A huge tampon needs to be inserted in the crust of the earth to stop it from no longer spinning on it's axis or some shit, don't bother renting this if you haven't yet.

Sorry, I feel like bitching... It's doing really well at the box office for a horror fiick, it's bought in $43.9 million in 10 days; that's pretty dam good!

I'll let you know when I go this week, can't wait!

:skull:

No shit, Latte? Great reading!
Seems like a must-fucking-see, if there ever was one.

*me so hyped*

Wonder how this will affect Romeros plans?

The DAWN remake had a pretty big box office drop off on its second weekend (falling past THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST) so zombie movies may not necessarily be a sure thing just yet.

This will show up on the big screen in fucking july... Damn.
Guess a goodlooking boot will have appeared before that, and i don't think i can wait a day longer than what's necessary... :(

Why is it so impossible to have a worldwide release of a movie anyway? These fools force me to use BT ;)
