Audition

Post by I am 138 »

I was just wondering if anyone had the Universe DVD of Audition. I'm curious to know if it is REALLY R3. I'm curious, because I believe my DVD of Battle Royale was put out by Universe (can't check, my cousin has it). That DVD says it's R3 as well, but is really R0 (Universe evidently just copies the code off the Japanese release or something). Anyone have any info?

Audition will be out on US DVD within a few months. No clue about the imports region coding, but I would personally recommend the UK release over the HK way, if you need the film immediately. If not, wait and see waht turns up on the US disc.

Cool. I actually don't have a region free player, so probably couldn't use the UK disc anyway. Thanks.

I just tested four different Universe DVD's on my unmodified Panasonic RV20. All regional labeling was totally accurate.

The results are as follows:

UZUMAKI - R3 (NO PLAY)

ANOTHER HEAVEN - R3 (NO PLAY)

VIOLENT COP (the Anthony Wong film) - R0 (PLAYED FINE)

AUDITION - R3 (NO PLAY)

My Universe versions of "Audition" and "Battle Royale" are definitely region 3.

My DVD Of Battle Royale(Universe label) is region 3 as well. It has a great transfer of the film. Haven't picked up the region 3 of Audition, but heard it's transfer is very good as well. How about it Chris?

I'll have to get it back to double check, but I thought it was universe. The case says R3, but on the DVD it says R0.

You heard right. Apart from some slight artifacting in some darker scenes (is is the disk or Apex 600A?) it is a great transfer. Yesasia has it for US$11.25 plus shipping which is a pretty good deal if you ask me!

And a deal I'll be looking into, after I check out local Chinatown stores, thanks. Funny thing about the Apex, today someone(licenced street vendor) tried to sell me the 1500 model for $90.00 bucks Canadian. It was a backlogged model, never been used.(original packaging) Yet in the entire day, NO ONE bought it at that price.I didn't either. It seems they haven't been getting positive word of mouth, up here. When Chris posted about the artifacting, and the fact it might be the 600A model I think it's something Apex should seriously look into, before putting their units into the marketplace.
