Satanic Rites of Dracula

Post by DylanDog »

I watched that Satanic Rites of Dracula dvd the other day and guess what? It turned out to be widescreen after all, and pretty good quality too. I was really expecting Good Times or Alpha Video quality. This one was put out by Digiview Productions. Too bad the movie wasn't very good. Dracula in the 70s tries to take his revenge on the world by having some high ranking Satanists unleash a new strain of the Plague. One thing I did find amusing was the juxtaposition of scenes of a Satanic ritual in a basement with a guy upstairs making a cup of coffee. Such a mundane everyday thing can make such theatrical evil seem so silly. Anyway, of course, Van Helsing's decendents are still about to take care of business. Also, there are vampiric laws in this movie that I have never heard anywhere else, one of which is key to Drac's defeat. I must say I've never seen Dracula killed in a more ridiculous way than in this one.....

He gets stuck in some bushes. Seriously, apparently the same thorn bushes as was placed on Christ's head is like garlic, etc.. for a vampire, at least in this movie. VH stands on one side of the bushes and Drac walks right in trying to get to him . It was a ludicrous way for a (mostly) high class series to end.
