Ju-Rei: The Uncanny

Post by DylanDog » Fri May 13, 2005 11:50 am

I was watching a re-run of the Simpsons yesterday, the one where Homer is a food critic. After giving the Italian restaraunt a bad review, Luigi has one of his "associates" put a horses head on Homer's pillow. Homer eats the head and gives it a bad review!

So then last night I watch this turd Ju-Rei, which as you can imagine is a near clone of Ju-on, and hate it. But perhaps because I finished it just before bed, I ended up having something of a nightmare about it. However, even the nightmare sucked. Like Homer, I have to give out two bad reviews. yep, 10 thumbs down on this one.

The only thing that set this apart from Ju-On at all was that it was told in reverse, starting at Chapter 10 and working it's way down to the prologue. And was I ever pissed that there even was a prologue, as I wanted the movie to end around Chapter 7 so when Chapter 1 finally came to a close, I was so relieved, only to receive the bad news that it wasn't over yet. The thing is, this backwards story telling created the same diminishing effect as watching the Ju-On tv show. You knew the big scare was coming every 7-8 minutes or so. Furthermore, as we all know even this reverse story telling is old hat at this point.

This movie is so derivitive of Ju-On, the people involved are lucky they haven't been sued. It's really that bad. But hey, at least The Simpsons was good. Screw Flanders screw Flanders screw Flanders screw Flanders........

This one drifted into our store several months ago and it looked like it was not only a Ju-On knock off, but also pretty miserable. I've pretty much given up on asian horror unless it seems to have some kind of originality to it, which is in short supply these days.

It boggles the mind that Japanese studios are still squeezing the blood out of the fad set by The Ring.

I forgot to mention it, but this movie was so unoriginal, they actually used the old "the phone call is coming from INSIDE THE HOUSE!" gag, albeit with a cell phone.

So... I couldn't just take your word about this crapfest, I just had to see for myself... go ahead, say it... you told me so...

No kidding it's a total rip off of Ju-On... right down to that noise that is made. It's an hour and 16min. of my life that I can never have back...

I will say one little thing that I did like about the film... how the ghosts were all blurred and fuzzy looking compared to those around it... otherwise what a complete stinker
