Boogeymen DVD

Post by DylanDog »

I'm not sure why I decided to buy this compilation disc, but for some reason I did so I figured I'd tell you guys about it. It's really not completely without merit as it shows some cool scenes from some decent movies (Hellraiser, NOES, Halloween, F13, TCM, etc..) and has scenes from other movies that serve to remind you just how bad those movies were (Leprauchan, Candyman, IKWYDLS, etc..). It also had a couple films included that I thought were sort of weird inclusions:

The Ugly-Even though I recently commented on how much I liked this movie, was it really popular enough to be included in a compilation like this? I suspect your average Joe off the street buying this for a Halloween party probably never heard of it. Hopefully it will serve to get the film some exposure though.

Psycho-The classic Hitchcock version was the only black and white film to be included. While a great film, it seems out of place next to the others.

The commentary by Robert Englund is pretty entertaining for the most part and I think you can tell by his tone which films he really liked (TCM) and those he tried not to say anything bad about (Leprechaun).

One of my biggest gripes with it is that the scene from Friday the 13th that they show DOESN'T SHOW ANYONE GETTING KILLED! How does that happen? There were so many murders to choose from, maybe they just couldn't decide.

There are also some other stupid things on the disc like trivia facts, a "name that frame" game, trailers, character bios, etc..

I guess if you've got a couple extra bucks in your pocket and you want to buy something stupid for Halloween, you could do worse....like actually buying some of the terrible movies on this dvd!

Not to put you down Dylan but....I have no intention of purchasing this disc as I thought it sounded worthless to begin with. Ten years ago I might have liked the idea and snatched it up, but I'm not into that stuff much anymore to have this in my collection....especially since it's probably something worth seeing just once. If I decide to watch it I can always see if Blockbuster has it for rent, but compilation videos such as this do nothing for me. Trying to sit through ZOMBIETHON and TERROR ON TAPE was enough. I'd much rather put my buck toward the new TERMINATOR and PHANTOM MENACE DVDs instead.

Well, I hope my post didn't come off as a ringing endorsement because it certainly wasn't meant to be. I've never bothered with compilation tapes in the past either, but being a DVD addict and seeing how it would be the first that I know of to have commentary, I figured I'd give it a shot.

Of course, whether this or Phantom Menace is a more worthy buy is a debate I won't even get into with you! ImageLOL
