Post press conference impressions...

Post by ZXRO » Tue May 09, 2006 5:45 pm

Well, as much as I wanted Sony to come in and kill it, they really let me down. The system isn't meeting the hype they set for it last year, and the two price levels is a bad bad idea, seeing as you cannot upgrade the 500 dollar system. The tilt controller seems like a rushed "hop on Nintendo's bandwagon" move, and probably won't be implemented well.

The Wii looks fun. Red Steel looks fun. The games aren't all that fantastic looking, but overall it looks like a fun experience, and with it probably not over 250 bucks at launch, more than likely worth getting.

I think 360 really delivered this year. The games are lookin hot, Live is hot, Live Arcade is hot, having over 100 titles out by Xmas is hot, having a HD DVD player attachement is hot, Xbox camera thing is hot.

Yeah, go MS.

Thats too bad about the PS3. But knowing me, Ill still get one. I dont like the set up of Madden on XBox. And thats basically the only reason why Ill buy one in the first place.

$500 bucks for the low-end PS3, and $600 for the upgraded model. That price is a total deal-killer for me. I will be spending my money on the Wii...definitely.

I knew it was gonna be expensive, but that was with last years hype. MS is gonna own for like 2 years at least. Sony is really droppin the ball here.

My prediction: over the next 2 years, HD-DVD is gonna pick up a bit, Blu Ray is gonna go the way of Beta, and Sony will have to rethink their attack plan for the next generation.

Here's to hoping MS does a price drop just in time for the PS3 launch, just to fuck with them. If they expect 10 million units sold by Xmas, I see that as feasible.

I agree. Blu-Ray is the Beta of today. Why the hell did Sony decide to integrate it into their system? Do the games really require that much data storage? I see this as a desperate attempt to use their console leverage to push the Blu-Ray format. I could be wrong, but I think it will backfire.

Totally...

That is exactly what they are doing. Sony = Beta, Minidisc, UMD, and now Blu Ray...when will they ever learn. Stick to hardware.
