So, I was over at my girlfriends and she showed me the computer game Guild Wars, it looked pretty cool, internet gaming and all.

Then it hit me in the head like a bag of bricks, what about World Of Warcraft. Its newer and more people play it.

Is it as good as you all say it is? :p

I play it. Admittedly I'm a total geek, but I love the game. I tried Guild Wars and wasn't very fond of it. WoW is a good game for almost anyone. My ex and I played it together, and she's not a fan of games. I play it, and I've been rocking the computer games since I was old enough to play mario.

Some people at my work are into this. It kind of sickens me to hear them talk about it all the time, so much in fact that I have made a rule where nobody is to discuss the game except for at breaks and lunch :)

Hahaha...

Word to that. At my last job I had "This is a WoW free zone!" signs posted in multiple languages in my cubicle. Damn crackheads.

My girlfriend and I were wandering around looking for a new hoodie for her, and we walked into Hot Topic (hey, they have clearance stuff, other then that *barf*) and they had WoW hoods there......

I'm on WoW. I have a level 17 Warlock on the Stormscale server. It's PvP so you can fight players of the opposing faction. You can even eat the body of the person you just killed to gain health as an undead player. And you can tell people to go fuck their mother if you want. You might get kicked off for 3 hours but that has only happened to me once. It's pretty brutal competition out there and always a challenge. Definitely worth $15 a month if you ask me.
I have a few high level pals on there that can help get you going so you don't have to drag through the noob zones. We are all Horde so make sure you make a Horde character. They have a free 10 day trial you can do as well just to see if you like it. Its the most balanced game of its kind out there. Every character is just as good as another. It all depends on how well you play them. However, I do like my Warlock's ability to pwn mages, paladins, and priests. Let me know if you are on. My character's name is Maleficium. Look me up!

All I can say is that you get what you pay for. In both cases.

Best of luck to you.

If you can't 'beat' a game, don't play it.
In playing, you should have the opportunity to do every possible thing in the game(%100), and make it worthless to you, and sell it to get something else.
Endless video games are retarded. If you're going to get addicted to something, let it be porn, or sunflower seeds.

Yeah, that is one way to look at it. Another way is the fact that you start with absolutely nothing and go through 70 levels of customization to craft the perfect character. Each area takes you deeper into your quests and the challenge becomes more worthwhile. As if the game itself weren't hard enough, you also have to think about opposing players trying to kill you. To me, an endless game of constantly killing other people is an ideal form of entertainment. It's not like you just sit there and press one button over and over and wait for your character to get done fighting. You have to really fight in this game and move around and use strategy to survive. In the early levels you will eat shit a lot. This probably discourages some from playing but the true players will stick it out and eventually make it to a high enough level to be able to hold their own and even dominate other players.
I understand the importance of pornography and sunflower seeds but, to be honest, I believe any naysayers of this game have never played it. And if you are unimpressed with the game before you reach level 20 you haven't really tried yet. So, make a character, give it a solid effort until level 20. Go through an instance or two. Get some good weapons and armor. Hell, maybe even make a friend or two and get a few plays on your band's myspace. If you still don't like it, hey, by all means talk shit.

Yeah, honestly, I don't really care that the game doesn't "end." I mean, I only ever beat half the games I've ever played anyways. I get bored 1/2 way through most games. But I enjoy playing WoW, regardless of whether or not I "win."

I understand the whole 'don't knock it til you've tried it at level 20', but by then it'd be too late.
I'm a video game fanatic, and that's why i've never played WoW, never will.
Not the type of addiction I'm looking for, i'm equal opportunity when it comes to video games, and it would be hell to be stuck in front of ONE that never ended. Couldn't be completely conquered. fuck that shit. You gotta make the game your bitch and give it back to gamestop. Meeting some people and getting a couple extra plays for the band I don't have, not a good incentive.

As for starting with nothing, and challenge and all that, why not be like that one lady who started building on her house and never stopped? all sorts of secret passages and shit, now that's an endless adventure worthwhile.

If GTA ever made it to the massive multiplayer online, though, i must say....i might have to try it. Virtual anarchy would be fun. people sitting in windows sniping, other fuckers running around constantly throwing grenades. Show me the way to that.

I don't know bro. I think the strength of a person's mind governs whether or not something is an addiction. I just play and enjoy it and don't when I have no time. I say make it to level 20 because you have 10 days to do it on the free trial. And to comment on your GTA idea. Yeah, it would be nice to shoot cops and throw grenades at them before dousing thme with a flamethrower. But, to me, that would become less special over time unless the game manufacturer made patches to constantly upgrade their game and keep it fresh. I'm thinking that a 10-20 team raid on Onyxia would be one of the significant fruits of your Warcraft labors. First off, she is a huge black dragon that fills your screen if you get too close. Secondly, she drops some sick items for your character. Next, it takes about fifteen minutes of fighting, healing, bandaging, mana management and all around guts to kill her. After which her head is on a pike in Ogrimmar, one of the main cities in the game and your guild is celebrated.

See for yourself.

Onyxia fight

I don't have sound on this comp so forgive the greenday/offspring soundtrack.

Like, I said 'don't knock it before you try it' is generally a good rule. But in this scenario. That's like saying:
"Heroin - don't pass judgement until you can handle 20ccs". right? by then it's too late:)
Of course it's the strength or weakness of the mind that constitutes an addiction, but when it comes to a good video game, I am weak, my friend.

Anywho...a MMO GTA would dominate everything. I'm not talkin' killin' cops for a second, i'm talkin' people forming there own little factions all over the world. That'd be survival. virtual anarchy. that would bury WOW. and of course there would be the appropriate patches.

Truth be told, I like the consoles...I've always thought computer games could generally lick my nuts, the old king's quest and leisure suit larry games were cool, though.

It would be nice if they could make a program that could support such resources. The graphics it would take to maintain the buildings and screen filling details of the game would most likely require a programmer's computer to play. It would be worth a shot if they figured out how to make the game available to the "normal" guy. I can see the possibilities already. Everybody gets a choice of what kind of character you can play based on one of two "factions". On one end you can be the cop and maybe 4 or 5 other characters that would surround the "good guy" scenario. At lower levels you could spend time busting people for speeding and have to chase them down and pull them over. At higher levels you could be a detective or even the chief of police and use extreme measures to stop crime. On the other end you could start off as a two bit thug running errands for a mob boss or a drug kingpin. Eventually you could become a professional assassin, a mobster, or even a corrupt politician toward the end game.

The only thing they would have to do is create a base storyline full of quests and tasks that would keep half a million subscribers interested indefinitely. Think of all the toys you would get throughout the game. Bullets, vests, grenades, missiles, etc. Not to mention your secondary trade skills you would need like maybe you would be a mechanic and be able to repair or soup up other characters cars for cash. Or maybe you would be an intern at a hospital and sell drugs on the side. hehe. The possibilities are endless and technology is making such elaborate programs a possibility.
