The Call of Cthulhu

Post by Latte Thunder »

This adaptation of Lovecraft's signature short story is probably the best Lovecraft adaptation I've ever seen. It's also the most original.

It was produced either this year or last, I'm not sure, by a society of Lovecraft fans on a tiny budget. The idea was to accurately bring Lovecraft's world to screen, and the only way they felt they could do it was to make a silent movie much in the vein of the films of the 20's. The movie is clearly shot on digital video, but the lighting, make up and film damage filters make it a very convincing silent film reproduction. It's also accompanied by a great score that sounds orchestral.

Unfortunately, this isn't a movie any distributor would touch with a ten foot pole, so the producers are selling it through their website only. I looked for it on Netflix and couldn't find it, either.

I urge everyone to check it out. You can go to the website and see the trailer.

Thanks for the heads up! I was just lamenting the fact that I hadn't watched a silent movie in over a year and this one was awesome! I just wish it was a bit longer than 47 minutes.

I am very tempted to order this movie. Doubt I will find it up here in the North County on a video store shelf.
I love reading Lovecraft, but the movies/vieo game(s) usually suck. I was pretty excited about the game version of this story, but it was bad:mad:
