The trailer for this is up on quicktime. I think I saw the original when I was younger, it had Michael Berryman in it right? Kinda gruesome exploitation style flick? In any case, this one looks like it might be worth checking out. Remakes have been hit or miss for me. I never thought Texas Chain Saw Massacre shoulda been remade, and I didn't enjoy the new one. I felt the same about Dawn of the Dead, but I actually really liked the new one.

Any fans of the original care to check out the trailer and post their thoughts?

I think someone should remake Mother's Day...that would be hilarious.

Oh, I hope this one is good... that is one of my all time favorite horror films.

I really hate to give my money to remakes, but this is directed by Alexander Aja and I really liked High Tension. I also love the original.

High Tension is another one I haven't seen yet. Is it out domestically yet? Like unrated DVD? I rarely go to theaters, since I got the full cable movie package and my roommate is a DVD hound.

They showed this trailer prior to Wolf Creek... it didn't look too bad. The trailer for the remake of When A Stranger Calls looks terrible...

Yeah--there were four horror movie trailers before WOLF CREEK, and three of them were remakes! THE HILLS HAVE EYES, WHEN A STRANGER CALLS and PULSE. As for HOSTEL? Well... it's not a remake, but the trailer made it look rather familiar... like something I already SAW (get it)? Probably not, but it also looks like Eli Roth has lost his sense of humor! We shall see what we shall see.

While I really enjoyed Kairo (Pulse) it didn't make a hell of alot of sense... but it was still some pretty creepy moments. The trailer for the American remake didn't look half bad... hopefully it will make some sense...

I thought Hostel while having a Saw look about it... the story itself kinda sorta reminds me of My Little Eye... or the one short in Cradle of Fear (kinda sorta)

I totally agree on both counts! I'm really looking forward to The Hills Have Eyes, but When A Stranger Calls looks to be another crap teen flick.

I mean really, the original Stranger was bad enough. An old urban legend with a potential for about 5 minutes of actual content.

When I saw this trailer, I was waiting for the whole bait-and-switch "turn off your cell phone" reminder things.

From the Hostel hype I've heard, Hostel has a set up that takes some time to get rolling like Wolf Creek and in that time, it plays out like Eurotrip. Maybe that's an exagerration, but the tone of the first half is supposed to have a similar tone to Cabin Fever. The second half, though, plays out like those great Hostel ads. Those are some nasty business, I might add. The shots of the guys in the smocks going over their tools is intimidating. It looks like it's going to be nasty.

Takashi Miike has a brief cameo, too.

And don't get me started on When A Stranger Calls. From the looks of the trailer, they blow the big twist right off the bat which suggests to me that the big OMG! The calls are coming from in the house! twist is used up right in the beginning and the rest of the movie is the babysitter running around the house in hysterics.

I like the original alot, the tone, the look, everything. The re-make looks good.

I love most flicks set in the desert; Kill Bill vol 2, The Devils Rejects, Dusk til' Dawn.It just gives it a sticky, dirty vibe.

I'm not too fond of the original. It's decent for what it is, I'd rather watch Hills Have Eyes than Children of the Corn, haha.

I'm still debating whether or not to bother with this in the theatre. It will be edited, and later there will be an Unrated DVD. The only incentive I see in catching it in the theatre is to observe how the audience reacts.

I caught Haute Tension in theatre, though I had seen it on DVD probably a year before it's US theatrical release. The theatre was about 1/5 of the way full and it was daytime showing. Towards the end of the film, around the time of the scene with the pipe saw, I noticed someone walk out of the theatre. When credits rolled I was one of the first out of the theatre. When I left I noticed the same person who left the theatre hanging around outside the door to the theatre. I guess she was waiting for whomever she saw the movie with.

Even if I don't watch Hills Have Eyes remake during it's theatrical run I may purchase a ticket to show "Support". Haute Tension was pretty good, chances are THHE will be decent.

If it were being released unedited, I'd definately catch it in the theatre. With an edited theatrical release, I'd rather wait for an unedited DVD.

I am pretty stoked and attending a midnight showing tonight. I really like High Tension and have a feeling I will really dig this remake. I am not a super big fan of the original though although I guess I can appreciate it.

It was great. I only had one minor problem but I don't want to ruin it for anyone. Aja is an awesome director and I can't wait to see what is next from him. About half the people at the theater at the midnight showing left in disgut muttering "that's just fucked up" after one particular scene. Quality movie I would reccomend seeing it.

Just read some reviews that basically crapped on the movie. They also werent so polite as to not give away the one big scene; sounds like the one thing I can't handle seeing in movies... oh well...

well as far as movies go it doesn't really have any depth or anything. I mean it is about nuclear mutants killing people in the dessert so it is easy to rip apart in a review. But if you could appreciate High Tension than you will definately appreciate this one. It is simple very graphic slasher/cannibal flick and I personally am in to that sort of thing

Fuck those LaHooZaHers that hate this movie(mainly Roger Ebert and his fat gut),for they are extremely clueless(as Shawn would say)in knowing that this film was made for fans,and by a fan,which is one of the main reasons why it is so relentlessly gory and twisted.

Yea, no one can really review horror well. And I don't really agree with Ebert on ANY movie, so Im not that worried.
