This is a remake of 'Night of the Creeps', right?

Looks pretty familiar but it's not officially a remake of Night of the Creeps. I can't fucking wait for it. Looks like it's going to give a nod to the splashy gore of the late 80's and that guy Nate Fillion was awesome on Firefly.

Lots of B-grade gore and laughs. Good times.

And everybody's right. The TV spots make it look like NIGHT OF THE CREEPS, the print ad makes it look like THEY CAME FROM WITHIN, and if you catch the right still, you'd swear you were looking at outtakes from SOCIETY. Meanwhile, the humor veers towards territory explored in such fine releases as INBRED REDNECK ALIEN ABDUCTION, which, coincidentally (?) featured a cover blurb by none other than James Gunn--but it aims higher.

Michael Rooker is terrific as the main character. Then (with as few spoilers as possible) comes a point where he is no longer the main character, and the cornball humor starts to get to be a bit much (though Gregg Henry is very funny as the mayor). I thought I had gotten everything I was going to get out of the movie and was prepared to simply sit through the rest of it... but then it did another swerve and served up a standout horror scene!

It's hit and miss--sometimes you can tell that you're dealing with the guy behind the DAWN remake, and sometimes you can tell that you're dealing with the guy behind the SCOOBY-DOO films. But it's energetic, it's eager to please and it does hit the occasional jackpot. I sense that people will tend to overpraise this in the long run--but it IS a good time at the movies.


P.S. UPDATE: You're telling me that STAY ALIVE did better in its SECOND week than SLITHER did in its FIRST??? Good grief--this is the one that's supposed to be GOOD... I didn't expect it to beat ICE AGE 2 or anything, but to do such an utter TANK job?

Funny movie with a good deal of gore, very entertaining.

I thought it was just okay... a bit draggy in parts and it felt a lot longer then the actually running time...

I did not like this movie. There was a shower scene and they actually used digital effects to obscure the woman's body. Its not that I need nudity in my films but it was like watching something edited for television. There was a bathtub scene where they did all these weird camera angles so you couldn't see the woman nude. A minute later she is fully dresses even though being chased. A lot of the gore was CGI and didn't have the feel of those 1980s flicks it pays homage to, those used prosthetics and were fun to watch.
The humor was awful. The mayor- the actor did a great job but his dialogue was so lame I never laughed at his comments. He was always doing the same thing, and I had to put up with lame dialogue forever. Half the lines in the movie are "Jesus Christ" or "Oh my god" or some variation of that, its like the director has to point out that it is an odd situation. The makeup was great, but the bloodshed was lame, a lot of the violence appears offscreen, and too much CGI.
Michael Rooker was great and then SPOILER after 30 minutes his role in the film is very limited.
Rooker's makeup was great, Rooker is great, there are some bizarre and twisted scenes and images, so it's not the worst film ever made, but I did not enjoy it.
I love films like Hills Have Eyes remake where there is real cruelty and humiliation and more hardcore violence, scary tense moments. This is just a Street Trash/ Troma Film/Re-Animator type film but I would much rather see those films.
