The 20 scariest movies of all time...

Post by ZXRO »

...according to Entertainment Weekly. I call shenanigans, Requiem for a Dream should be on that list.

Seven? Silence of the Lambs? Apparently Entertainment Weekly doesn't know the difference between suspense and horror. And Evil Dead as one of the scariest movies? C'mon now.

No Friday the 13th?! WTF!?

At least Henry made it on there. That was a pretty cool flick.

Thanks for sharing that dude.

Requiem for a dream is fucked up.

I wouldn't neccesarily call Requim scary.

It's just one of those crazy drug movies that makes me feel like I've been awake for 3 days when I'm done watching it.

It's all a matter of perception, I guess. That movie had me gripping my chair and clenching my jaw. I was tense, and I jumped a couple times. Not scary in a traditional horror sense, but scary nonetheless.

Requim was a pretty sweet movie. I dug that one.

Darren Aronofsky has really impressed me so far. His next flick, The Fountain, which he wrote and directed, looks like a mind fuck. He also has two other movies he is directing, including a live action Lone Wolf and Cub in early production phase.

Haven't all of the Lone Wolf and Cub movies been live action already? :)

Everything I have read about it refers to it as a "live action interpretation of the manga series". So I guess it isn't a remake of the original movie series, but an American take on the manga books?

Hmmm... we already DID get an American take on the manga... once removed, that is.

It was called THE ROAD TO PERDITION!

As for the list? Not that the movies are bad, it's just that this is just another generic ET upheaval of all the "safe" stuff.

Except--I will give them kudos for showing some balls and picking LOST HIGHWAY! (And it's just coincidence that I'm reviewing that one soon...)

Well, there are the classics that no one can deny (Jaws, Poltergeist, Exorcist) but I gotta agree. Where is Jason? No Hellraiser 2?

The first time I saw Event Horizon I swore it was one of the scariest movies I had ever seen. Then I watched it again and decided it was dumb.

But yeah, I wouldn't call Seven scary.

Haven't seen Road to Perdition, what was up with that? I thought Lone Wolf and Cub was a really bloody samurai series that came out in the 70s or whatever. Maybe the 80s? I remember seeing something on the international channel, but I don't speak Chinese or read Korean.

I looked up Road to Perdition...no wonder I never saw it. I tend to avoid Tom Hanks movies. He will never top Big in my opinion.

Looked up the old Lone Wolf series. I think I saw one of these, if the character wore like white wolf skins and stuff. Maybe I am crazy. I see how it was sorta related to Shogun Assassin, which is one I saw, and then watched again after I saw Kill Bill vol. 2. I needed to see more over the top blood sprays from katana slices.

In any case, I hope he can get a decent financial backing and good distribution. I would love to see a talent like Aronofsky get more mainstream Hollywood work. I have a feeling he has a few tricks up his sleeve he is keeping for when he gets a good enough distribution deal.

I can deny Jaws. Didn't scare me when I was a kid, doesn't scare me now. Shit, I think 'Duel' is twice as scary. I do agree about 'Requiem' and as far as it's classification, or lack thereof, as a "horror" movie I point to Fangoria, which has far more credibility than any newstand magazine when it comes to horror and I seem to recall that Requiem was considered one of their top 5 of 2001. I can't be bothered with these asinine lists, but how about 'Black Christmas' as an overlooked entry. One of the few movies in my life I remeber really scaring me, but I have a feeling it will continue to be bypassed until some asshole produces a shitty remake of it.

Or what about Creepshow, Basket Case, The Cars That Ate Paris, Stuff Stephanie In The Incinerator, or Sleepaway Camp?

Just kidding.

Sleepaway Camp, while not scary is still a pretty good flick. I have the box set......

Okay, so they're bad. But I love really bad horror movies.

Absolutely. I piss my pants everytime those completely telegraphed 'scare' scenes transpire in a FIDAY THE 13TH flick.

I'VE TAKEN SCARIER SHITS.

That movie IS scary. After seeing it, I was quivering at the idea of more bad drama being marketed as wacky horror comedy...

I thought it was kind of slow, but I did enjoy it. I would agree that it's a bit over rated though.

Event Horizon still holds as the scariest movie ever for me.
