Troll vs. Happy Pooper

Post by LIVE FO RETSINIM »

So why is there not a huge uproar about this??? Anyone??? Anyone??? That junkie blatantly ripped off Troll in one of her drug induced writing sessions hunched over in front of the VCR. She must have paid him off or it would have been big news by now. I mean, come on!!! I bet she paid him off.

Hey, when I reviewed TROLL and TROLL 2 for VW some years ago, I made a point of mentioning the "Harry Potter" coincidence--I even went so far as to say "the frequent use of the name 'Harry Potter' in the trailer can really make one wonder."

Beyond the name, though? I guess there just wasn't enough of a case to be made, and my scorching expose failed to blow the lid off the TROLL/Rowling conspiracy...

Cool! I was wondering if anyone was ever going to bring this up. Saw part of Troll on the TV a few years back and was WTFing to myself when I heard that name!
What a gay ass movie BTW...

Interviewer: "It's bizarre, isn't it? You have a young boy named Harry Potter who discovers that he has magical powers and uses them to fight a troll.

Charles Band: "I've heard that JK Rowling has acknowledged that maybe she saw this low-budget movie and perhaps it inspired her. Who knows what the story is? Life's too short for a fight as far as I'm concerned but, having said that, there are certain scenes in that movie, not to mention the name of the main character, and this of course predates the Harry Potter books by many, many years. So there's that strange connection."

Writer/director John Carl Buechler is presently filming a remake of troll, with the lead character Harry Potter who uses magic to fight magical characters.

From a Troll 2008 press release in regard to the Harry Potter magical boy character: "TROLL has not been prepared, approved, or licensed by any entity that created or produced the J.K. Rowling series of Harry Potter books or the Warner Bros. series of Harry Potter movies. Movies Plus is not affiliated with J.K. Rowling or Warner Bros., nor has this movie been endorsed or authorized by J.K. Rowling or Warner Bros... Harry Potter and his family were characters in the 1986 movie, Troll, which was independently created and distributed before J.K. Rowling’s first book."
--------------------------------------------------------------

Thre reason there isn't a big uproar about is most people could give a shit lwess about Troll and have never even heard of it, the only way I knew about it was from "The 50 Worst Movies Ever"

...and now that the name is famous, we will exploit it by making a sequel to two previously shitty worthless movies...
I always wished that Mystery Science Theatre would have got a hold of Troll

There are no sequels to Troll, they are remaking it, there was Troll 2 and Troll 3, but niether of those were technically part of the franchise, Troll 2 is about a goblin and was originally called Goblin and Troll 3 was about man eating plants and I can't even remember what it was supposed to be called

The movie filmed as TROLL 3 was released direct-to-video in America as THE CRAWLERS.

Weird! Why would they use the name and label it a sequel? Maybe someone got the idea from Friday the 13th the series haha
I only vaguely recollect Troll 2. I remember it being quite a bit different from the first one...

Almost every film has a single homage to an older film that they(the film's filmmaker)saw in the past and absolutely adored, for it's nothing new in knowing that "Troll" 's human archrival shares the same name with J.R. Rowling's tween boy wizard.
