Hausu (House)

Have we talked about this crazy as hell Japanese movie from 1977? We probably shouldn't because words can't do it justice. It's one of the most messed up movies I've seen. If you've forgotten why you used to love Asian horror, this would be a good movie to go back and watch. It's a typical haunted house movie, yet there is almost nothing typical about it. It's a visual kaleidoscope of the bizarre, presented along with music and dialogue that is at times totally inappropriate, yet somehow also perfectly natural. The plot is simple. A group of high school girls go to spend their vacation with one of their aunts, who has been living alone and pining away for her long lost love, who died in the war. Shortly after arriving, strange things start to happen and one of the girls disappears. By the time it's all over, mattresses attack, pianos eat people, skeletons dance and all sort of other weirdness transpires. Here's the trailer, though it doesn't really begin to show how messed up this movie is....
