Once Upon A Time In Mexico...

Post by Jonathan » Fri Aug 22, 2003 12:12 am

Moons ago I saw a low budget movie by Robert Rodriguez called "El Mariachi" and fucking dug it! Then the hi budget 'sequel' came out "Desperado" and it was sorta okay.

Now this:
Once Upon A Time In Mexico trailer

mutha phukin Salma Hayek
Johnny Depp
Antonio Banderas
Mickey Rourke
Cheech Marin
Willem Dafoe

"The saga of the mythic guitar-slinging hero, El Mariachi (Antonio Banderas), continues in Robert Rodriguez’s bold, non-stop action epic ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO.

The new adventure is set against a backdrop of revolution and greed. Haunted and scarred by loss, El Mariachi (Banderas) has retreated into a life of isolation. He is forced out of hiding by Sands (Johnny Depp), a corrupt CIA agent. Sands recruits the reclusive hero to sabotage a plot by the evil cartel kingpin Barillo (Willem Dafoe), who is planning to assassinate the president of Mexico. El Mariachi has his own reasons for returning – retribution and revenge.

Now, together with his capable cohorts Lorenzo (Enrique Iglesias) and Fideo (Marco Leonardi) the legend of El Mariachi attains new levels of excitement.

saw it at a last minute dash to the theater

I really really really really liked it.

It was somewhat unexpected, it wasnt what i thought it was going to be. Very over the top "yeah right" rodriguez style. I love it!

It was funny, it was gross, it had tons of action. The cast was great. Johnny Depp was superb (per usual)

I didnt even mind that enrique was in the movie. Image

Worth every penny in my opinion, I might even go see it again.

Nowhere nearly as good as "El Mariachi" or "Desperado", I was a bit disappointed in this one. Sure, the action scenes were very well done and Johnny Depp gave another kick-ass performance. There was something missing though, it just didn't flow as smoothly as I thought it would. I'd recemmend spending your money on "Cabin Fever" instead and waiting for this one on video.

Finally caught up to this, and I'd have to say I enjoyed it every bit as much as I did DESPERADO.

Funny how I catch two "massive gunfire" movies in a row and get bored to death by one and not the other...

And what they put Johnny Depp through!!!!

Too tired for a full review, and I doubt you really need one--if this interests you at all, you've likely already caught it by now.

(heavy sigh) Do I really have to go see COLD CREEK MANOR next?

I think it should be called The Good, The Bad, and The Mexican. I enjoyed it, but I prefered either of the prequels. It just seemed that a LOT of cool stuff was crammed in, which meant some things, like story, got glossed over. Seemed like Banderas wasn't even in the movie that much. I'm not a huge Banderas fan, but he IS the star.
