Nothing against Clint Eastwood--he's a good actor and a good director, and he deserved everything UNFORGIVEN got him. And yes, it's commendable that he's playing a 72-year-old instead of an ageless "action man."
But could you come up with a more predicable script if you TRIED? If this thing had had an opening credit sequence (it didn't), it might as well have included "And XXX XXXXX as THE MURDERER!" No other reason for the character to exist, no other reasonable suspects provided... and nothing but the usual extended showdown once the revelation takes place.
I don't know if it was the original novel or Brian Helgeland's screenplay adaptation (but I'll tell you this much, I liked PAYBACK a lot better, so I'm betting it was the novel).
Okay, I've completely taken over the "Beaten Track" board. Bring on FEARDOTCOM and let's get some HORROR back on the screen!
