The Star Wars Holiday Special!

Post by Griff [Mola] »

I'm in the middle of downloading a DivX of this infamous number (no mean feat on a slow-arse dial-up connection) and from just taking a peek at what I've gotten so far I've just gotta say:

What a fucking disgrace!

Oh, the howls of hysterical laughter that filled the room when I fired up the intro. I'm torn between either helping Lucas personally hunt down each and every bootleg copy and burying them beneath the scorched sands of the Tunisian desert or aggressively campaigning for a bells and whistles DVD release.

Of course, just the fact that Lucas himself ain't game enough to make a buck off this turd was a pretty good indication of what I was in for but I've been haunted by vague recollections of its boadcast when I was 2 years old and livin' it up in Canada and just couldn't resist.

I'd love to know what the reaction was when this first debuted. Its obviously aimed at kids but only the most unintelligent and ugly ones I'm lead to believe. If EMPIRE STRIKES BACK was an apology, I see great things for ATTACK OF THE CLONES.

Oh, and just one question for know-it-all Lucas:

"So, what episode number is this?"

I don't think I've ever seen this. Where are you downloading it from? I'd love to get a look at it.

Man, I have always wanted to see this but was never given the opportunity. But the only bootlegger known to sell it at one point was Revok and I refused to go that route. So I keep my eyes open for a potential trade. The only reason I had any interest in it was because of the cartoon where Boba Fett makes his first appearance. Supposedly this was supposed to take place between STAR WARS and EMPIRE and explain Fett's connection with the Empire (so Griff I think that would make it Episode IV.5 Image )Aside from that, I could probably live without the rest of the special as I heard it was dreadful (a bunch of musical numbers if I heard right). Be sure to let us know how it is Griff.

I'm downloading it off Morpheus as there seems to be two DivX files about 120MB each floating around. The quality is pretty damn poor but then you should see how bad the 17MB real video file over at htt://www.blueharvest.net looks. Still, if you just want a brief idea of how this turkey is, go for that but prepare to use your imagination to make sense of it.

Apparently Boba plays a good guy in this but I haven't gotten to that part yet - I just can't get past Chewbacca's wife wearing an apron and doing the dishes... Chuck, if you just wanna see the cartoon then there's a 20MB mpeg of that going around on Morpheus too. Just search for 'holiday special'.

A friend of mine had a video of this crap. He got it for laughs and tried to show it to me, but I couldn't sit through more than 15 minutes of it at a time. It's one of those things that is just too stupid. This wasn't so bad it's good (in my opinion) it was so bad it was sickening. It made me uncomfortable to see how poor it turned out. This was as bad as the Fantastic Four movie and I didn't think you could sink that low.
