It was a good movie but I thought it was just too close to a lot of other classics. :) I bet the directors cut will be much better.

Just go rent Texas Chainsaw Masscre II and there you have it.
Now add some "Natural Born Killers" psycho break ins and blend in the great one liners from the "Evil Dead" series and now you have House of .................

But I did really like it and watched it twice yesterday. I felt it was the perfect way to spend Easter.

I have a bootleg.

Best movie I've ever seen in a theater!
Not best of all time till the directors cut comes out. Half an hour of the stuff we couldn't see but knew was there!!!

I think people should take this to the horror forum where it belongs (not talking about you Clark) and add thoughts to the lengthy discussion that's already there.

Best horror movie you've ever seen in a theater? You must be either REALLY young or have seen very few horror films theatrically :)

I'm willing to wager that the majority of the stuff that was cut outt was more artsy fartsy music video-type shit and not any real meat!

Eh, it was okay. I was very disappointed by the final product after waiting years for this movie to finally be released. It's been so long since I was first teased about this movie that I've since forgotten who Chris Hardwick is. The movie was like any other low budget horror movie... a rip-off, overly obvious and strained. Throughout the entire movie I was either disturbed or severely bored. There was no happy median. Making me "start" a few times doesn't garner points for "a horror movie to end all horror movies". This is one I'll probably "overlook" when it comes down to DVD time. All three of my, only slightly, opposable thumbs down. Like it was said earlier... go watch Texas Chainsaw Massacre II. :chainsaw:

I'm excited to see this, although I haven't had a chance to yet.

We cult film fanatics (and Rob Zombie fans as well) love this stuff!

I entered a contest on KNAC.com to win the soundtrack.

Chris, from what I hear there was some good juicy shit cut from the film, so its not all just filler and crap. There was 30 minutes cut, of course that wasn't all gore. But there were a handful of scenes that the MPAA would not allow no matter how trimmed down they were so they were completely cut out of the film. From what Bill Moseley told me there is some serious gore cut from the film, and some was digitally removed from the print, like the scene when Otis blows the cops brains out...The DVD sounds like its going to be cool too. Rob Zombie is doing a big thick booklet too, its going to be a cool DVD release.

Will this added stuff make the movie better for the folks that didn't like it? Probably not. I've seen it 3 times and I really dig it now. When I first saw the bootleg VCD I didn't know what to think, but seeing it on the screen was a totally different experience. It was just alot of fun, it reminded me of seening shit in the drive-in when I was a little shit... Its the most "unoriginal" horror movie but I still enjoyed it.

It does suck that alot of stupid kids that aren't into horror films and have no fucking clue about the history of horror films think that this movie is full of original ideas and say shit like "Best horror movie they've ever seen in a theater" and this is the same group that will see the new Dawn Of the Dead and think its a great original zombie movie.

House Of 1000 Corpses has created the biggest load of Horror-Posers I have ever seen in my life. But I still dig the movie... Just not for the same reasons they do...

When did you add that 1000 Corpses shirt to your site, Shawn? I was just over there yesterday and I swear it wasn't there... Good looking shirt, I say, even if I didn't care for the movie.

I thought the movie had it's merits, but I just could not find a starting to point to really enjoy it. I thought it had great potential, and if Zombie can find some solid ground and get some experience under his belt (and maybe some script re-writes), he'll probably be a promising horror director in the future.

As for an uncut DVD. Even though I didn't like the movie, I'd still rent that shit just to see what I missed in the theatrical print.

This movie was sort of cool for about fifteen minutes, till it turned into Rob Zombie wishing he could make a movie as sick as the shit in his video collection.

It was sick, great. It was crazy, great. It was still fucking boring, and the mechanical monsters at the end were completely retarded.

he should get someone else to write for him.
Let's ask him, what's the deal?

House of a Thousand yawns

Post by Mok »

Greetings from Detroit. I saw this film in An Actual Drive In And even though I am a HUGE horror movie addict and so is my (Death Metal Godess) wife. But this movie was dullsville. The actor who played the oldest weirdo was quite obviously a young guyand there was Not enough gore (aka. Dead Alive). But Never the less I'm glad to see Karen Black working again even though this movie sucked bad. Oh sure Not compared to I still know what you did this summer and last summer and what the fuck ever. But it still was a badly edited piece of crap. But I will say 2 coool things about it
#1. it had potential for future scripts that Zombie can produce.
#2. It has some potential for directors cut. I hope so anyway

Dude, what the FUCK are you talking about? Fucking clueless. Are you refering to Dennis Fimple? Sid Haig? Sounds like you are talking about Bill Moseley? Have you seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2? You call yourself a HUGE HORROR MOVIE ADDICT and you don't even know the names of the fucking actors or what other films they have been in?

LOL I still haven't seen any of the TCM flicks. Maybe I should get started so I'll be ready when that remake comes out. Isn't the Bill Moseley in HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES the same one who played Johnny in the remake of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD?

This was in town for a few weeks and I never made it out to see it. But I read on DVDFile last week that Lion's Gate is going to be releasing an unrated DVD of this in August , so I'll wait and see it then;)

Chuck, honestly, NONE of the CHAINSAW MASSACREs? You absolute freak of nature.

Yeah, that's the same Billy Mosely from NOTLD90. I guess him and Savini got on well during the making of TCM2.

What I meant to say Griff is that I hadn't seen any of the sequels. I saw the original TCM several years ago when I was really young, but I haven't seen it since then. From what I remember, it really scared the crap out of me. I need to see it again and then catch up on the sequels before that remake comes along. Are the sequels any good?

good but not a classic

Post by Scott »

For what it's worth, I went in expecting to see a good horror film and I wasn't disappointed. I wouldn't go as far as to say House of 1000 Corpses will become a cult classic as some claimed it would but its certainly worth the price of admission. It's also a helluva lot better than some of the crap I've seen recently like Ghost Ship or I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Some of Rob Zombie's directing techniques such as the Natural Born Killers-esque cut ins got a little annoying and I thought he rushed the ending a little bit. Character development is also shallow but I expected that. But the film gets performances from genre vets Sid Haig, Bill Moseley, and Karen Black and their is enough gore to satisfy. Like I said, not a classic, but a good film nonetheless.

Also, when I walked out of the theatre I heard mixed reactions, but I heard that nearly made go off. This girl was telling her boyfriend that House of 1000 Corpses was the single worst film she'd ever seen and that the film would've been better off casting some well known actors like Jennifer Love Hewitt or Neve Campbell! If you could only have seen the steam coming out of my ears.
