Just picked up book #2 of the Uzumaki manga (graphic novel) on which the film was based. It's just as excellent as the first, and goes into a LOT more detail than the movie. If you've only seen the film, wait until you see the full story of the kid who likes to surprise people... I wish they'd filmed the whole chapter as-is!
Viz Communications is to be praised for their efforts to bring Junji Ito's work stateside, although I question their slow-paced track for the domestic release of the film (wasn't it already supposed to have both a theatrical run _and_ a DVD release by now??)
The final translated book (#3) is due out in October.
Uzumaki manga
Theatrical release
It's getting a theatrical release in Canada at the beginning of August. I believe the film's had a a lot of film festival play in the U.S. So it should open in a few major markets there, soon. It's been out on import R3 DVD for some time. It'll probably be a long wait for an R1 release.
