Favorite director with five or more movies?
I think that Terry Gilliam is amazing. I find his movies to be absolutely breathtaking. Very visual. Very cerebral. Very well done.
My five favorite of his:
1 The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
2 Brazil
3 12 Monkeys
4 Time Bandits
5 Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas

Definitely! Joe Dante is the genre movie underdog.Originally posted by Remo D
In support of the criminally underappreciated LOONEY TUNES: BACK IN ACTION, I name Joe Dante.
As far as his movies go, I really liked:
The Howling
Gremlins (Yeah, I like this movie, bitches!)
The Burbs
Rock n Roll High School
I think John Carpenter is my favorite genre director of all time, though. So many of his movies rank so high on my list of favorites. Escape From New York is my favorite movie of all time.
Escape From New York
Big Trouble In Little China
The Thing
The Fog
They Live
George Romero has great flicks, too
Night of the Living Dead
Dawn of the Dead
Day of the Dead
The Crazies
Martin
More recently, Takashi Miike has gained a lot of respect from me. Just about everything he makes is solid gold.
Ichi The Killer
Fudoh: The Next Generation
Happiness of the Katakuris
Audition
Dead or Alive
and even though I haven't watch a Fulci movie in a long time, he still reigns supreme with me
City of the Living Dead
The Beyond
Contraband
New York Ripper
Zombie
I really, really need to see more of this guy's movies. I've only seen Accion Mutante and that movie is fucking great! I really want to track down Perdita Durango (not Dance With the Devil), 800 Bullets and Day of the Beast but I'm so broke that I just can't get away with ordering the movies.Originally posted by shawn

A couple of my favorites fall just shy of the 5 movie minumum:
Jorg Buttgereit and Michele Soavi (largely on the strength of Dellamorte, Dellamore which is Numero Uno for me).
When Jean Rollin is "on" (Living Dead Girl, Fascination, Night of the Hunted, Lips of Blood, etc....) he's right up there. But when he's not (Two Orphan Vampires, Zombie Lake, Streets of Bangkok), cover your eyes, it ain't pretty.

Oh hell yes, all of his movies kick ass! I'm still looking for a copy of 800 bullets, I'm just not willing to shell out the big bucks for the Region 2 PAL right now.

Well, Joe didn't do ROCK AND ROLL HIGH SCHOOL, though I know you meant HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD. Let's not forget PIRANHA, his TWILIGHT ZONE segment, and don't feel obliged to defend GREMLINS, because I liked it, too, and the sequel even more.
Also liked EXPLORERS, if you must know, INNERSPACE... and yeah, SMALL FREAKIN' SOLDIERS, too!

Explorers is one of my all time favorite movies ("Now where did I leave ze bug-bomb?") and it should be out of DVD, which I don't believe it is, is it?
Same holds true for my other favorite Joe Dante film, the made for HBO "The Second Civil War", a great movie that never really gets talked about.

Alien: Resurrection?
I think Terry Gilliam is only good when he's working with Terry Jones.
