More news on the up and coming Jodorowsky film, guys. I got this from the IMDB - but news on anything Jodorowsky is so damned scarce I thought I'd mention it..
Before I say anything, to those who don't already know, the Sons of El Topo project was scrapped ages ago, due to licensing problems. I somehow doubt that that the original premise that Jodo presented ages ago (changing Topo to Toro, changing the character from a mole to a raging bull) is happening, due to the new title.
They've updated the release date to 2002 (allegedly 3rd quarter according to some french site I found on Altavista) and here's the interesting part. The main character (Cain) is being played by none other than Brian Warner (aka Marilyn Manson). Wonder if the teeny-goths will eat this up, or perhaps ol' Alejandro will make it suitably weird enough for even them to watch. Either way, another scary revelation - even though it might not be a lot by today's filmmaking standards, it is a lot by indie standards. This film has a budget somewhere around 12 million US dollars. A Jodorowsky film with a budget? Say it ain't so...
Out of curiosity, has anyone else heard anything about Abelcain?
Allan.

"I pitched the WB a show where Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny were teenagers, and I was a teenager too, and we were all pirates, but every week we would have different jobs and identities. And they called back and said it was stupid! And that I was stupid too! And let me tell you something. There's nothing stupid about a teenage rabbit teaching good hygiene! NOTHING!" - Space Ghost.

I had heard about a Jodo/Manson collaboration maybe over a year ago when talk of Manson's Holywood album was coming out. Allegedly it was supposed to be some kind of surreal rock opera about the falsehoods of Hollywood, it was to star Manson in this Ziggy Sytardust rip-off act and it was to be a Jodorowski movie... but it never happened.
Quite frankly, I'm always surprised to hear that Jodo is still alive. The guy is such a lunatic I figured he'd either be dead or in an asylum somewhere. Read some interviews with him sometime, he is definitely not in touch with reality.
I still have yet to see El Topo, I know of very few places that actually have it. I have seen Santa Sangre and based on the weirdness of that movie alone I want to see more. I just haven't gotten around to it.

You are correct sir! I did the same thing. I must've waited two months before finally deciding I was ready to watch that. I really liked it. Unlike that Holy Mountain crap.....(yes, I bear grudges.lol)
Geez, Mr. Mister Manson seems to have his fingers in lots of cinematic pies lately, eh? Is the Wonka remake still a go? And isn't he doing music for From Hell?

Marilyn Manson doing the music for From Hell? I don't hear it... That's supposed to be a period piece, isn't it? I suppose one of these days I'll track down El Topo. the only place I know off-hand that sells it is Revok and I'll be damned to hell before I order from that guy.

I believe Manson was scheduled to do a song or two to run over the credits for From Hell. I could be, and hope I am, wrong.
