Night of the Living Dead Millenium Edition

Post by DylanDog »

Perhaps this has been covered already, but does anyone have the inside scoop on this dvd? A friend of mine said he watched it the other day and thought that when scenes cut away, the previous image tended to stay for a second. He said it was very annoying. Might it just have been a glitch on his disc/player? I still don't have this movie on dvd and this looks like it's got plenty of cool extras on it so I figured it might be the one to get.

I haven't heard of anything like that, but I also don't have it. Yet whenever I discuss on some other board which Night DVD to get, that's always the name that gets dropped. Apparently this Millenium Edition is THE Night of the Living Dead disc to own and all the other can go to hell.

I haven't seen the MILLENIUM EDITION but did own the ELITE REMASTER ON DVD and that may have been what your friend was talking about. I recall having those problems while watching the disc and sold it, I guess there's a market for it.
From what I've been told the one you've linked is the one to get your hands on. Try going over to overstock.com, they may have it cheaper. Amazon is getting to overpriced.

I've noticed this on every single version of NOTLD I've ever seen (including the computer colourized version). There's like a little... flinch... at each edit.

I checked it out in slow mo on one of my tapes once. Basically, in between each shot we're treated to a single frame, a strange double image comprised of the two adjacent frames - almost as if there was a one frame dissolve between each shot. I always assumed it was some lazy NTSC->PAL transfer where the (blended) interlacing was unnaturally bridging each shot.

However, looking at the ME DVD, its a little different. Its like the frame composition shifts up slightly after the first frame of every shot.

Its bizarre and I have no idea what the technical reason is behind this. Rest assured its on all versions though and that the Millenium Edition is still the version of choice.

Buy it now, you damn fool!

Ok, ok, I just bought it. Borders Books is having a "Buy 3 DVDs, Get the 4th Free" sale so I picked up that, Contraband, The Ghastly Ones/Seeds Of Sin and Kiss Me Quick/House on Bare Mountain. Will let ya know what I think.

Had no problem with the NOTLD disc. Whatever that glitch is, it was barely noticable to me. Don't know why I didn't know this dvd was out sooner.

Kiss Me Quick was fun. Boobs, monsters, boobs, stupid jokes and some more boobs. Who can complain? Looking forward to House On Bare Mountain.

Contraband was a bit of a letdown to me. It wasn't as violent and sadistic as I thought it was gonna be and I didn't really care much for the characters. I didn't realise that cigarettes were something that needed to be smuggled into Italy. And what kind of criminal investigates his brothers death unarmed, as Luca does at first?!? And why did he shoot the trash bags at the end? Some sort of silly metaphor for ridding Naples of the "bad" smugglers or something? It seemed sort of silly to me at times. Otherwise, it was ok.
