I joined Netflix. I need movie recommendations!

Post by Seattle Death Metal »

I recently signed up for this and so far I am loving it. Problem is I'm not sure what all to rent. Other than horror movies I enjoy dramas, documentaries & based on true story movies.

Some movies I've rented and enjoyed are:

Thirteen, Monster, & The Secretary.

I have on the way:

Kids, L.I.E, Suburbia and several chick flicks.

Im really into movies like those I listed above. You know, like your Trainspotting and Gummo type movies. Are there any I am missing that anyone recommends I see?

Thanks Chris. :) I'll see if they have any of those. They seem to have a pretty good selection.

Any recommendations are welcome! Even if it's not along the lines of what I mentioned. If it's something you think I must see, let me know.

Man, LIE ruined Brian Cox for me forever. Whenever I see him in any movie now all I think of is him talking about sucking dick.

He seriously gave me the creeps in that movie.

Put Capturing The Friedmans on your queue if you haven't seen it already. That was a great doco.

Heh I was getting on to suggest Capturing the Friedmans and it looks someone took care of it for me. It's fantastic. ;)

Also another to look for is The Devil's Backbone, well done scary movie.

I'm wrestling with the idea of shelling out the greenbacks for the import version of this movie. It doesn't look like there's ever going to be a Region 1 release and the R2 is pretty freakin' sweet.

It's one of my all-times.

The great thing about Netflix for me is that I just put whatever the hell pops into my head on my list and then put it out of my mind. All those things I always say I'll watch "some day" are there. Finally am about to see Citizen Kane at last. Got some Marx Brothers, Kaiju Eiga, Buster Keaton, Kung Fu, Western, any thing. Pretty much any little thing that someone says "you should see...." , I put it on the list. Then when it shows up, it's like someone forcing me to watch it and that's a good thing. If left to my own devices, I'll tend to watch the same type of thing over and over.

My hubby and I just watched Wasabi from Netflix... which we both really enjoyed. Then again I'm a sucker for anything Luc Besson touches or Jean Reno stars in :)

We watched Elephant last night... and we thought it was horrible.

Check out "Swimming with Sharks." It's an indie flick with Kevin Spacey. This is the best boss-from-hell movie ever. And yes, Ed Wood!!!

I don't know if you're into foreign flicks, but if so, I recommend 3 Mexican flicks (w/ subtitles).
"Amores Perros"
"The Crime of Padre Amaro"
"Y Tu Mamá También"

Basically, if you're into the Tarantino-style, you'll dig these.

I really dig mexican/ spanish films. I also recommend these... and Talk To Her. Spanish film... weird and good. And Devil's Backbone.

Also, Strangers With Candy. All seasons. It's hilarious. I don't know if you know it, but it's a show that was on Comedy Central years ago. Possibly the most underrated comedy show ever. :)

You got married? Fuck.. where the hell have I been.. Well congratulations to you.

I loved ELEPHANT, thought it was brillant. Check out my review on GREENCINE (poorly formated by the way, grammar and all)...

If your going to see KIDS you might as well go into the rest of Korione's films...

GUMMO (which I know many hate but I thought was fucking psychotic)
JULIEN DONKEY BOY (that flick really bugged me, in a good sort of freaky way)
and when you can afford a region free player and really feel like walking the edge
check out KEN PARK (get the Russian import) Man that movie was sick..

BLOOD FEAST 2 is only worth it for the first disc.. Stick with that.
Here are a few other's:

THE DREAMERS (make sure it's NC-17)
JOURNEY'S WITH GEORGE (great documentary about Bush's first election)
GARAGE DAYS
HENRY PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER (they seem to be the only one's that carry this one, of course you probably saw it but if you didn't, still worth it.. do not see HENRY 2 though)
Shit.. had a total brain fart...
