Anchorman : The Legend of Ron Burgandy

Post by DylanDog »

This movie holds absolutely no surprises. If you like Will Ferrell at his utmost stupidest (like I do) then by all means head on out to see it. If not, you probably better steer clear of this one, it won't do much to change your mind about him. He plays the lead whose life is perfect as San Diego's top newsman, until Christina Applegate is added as the first female member of the news team with aspirations of becoming a lead anchor. Besides this troubling occurance, there is also quite the rivalry with other news teams from around town, news teams that feature a number of cameo's from other prominent comedians. There's several laugh out loud scenes as well as plenty of cheap, but funny, gags. Steve Carell as retarded weatherman Brick Tamland is probably the least funny character in the movie. (As a side note, Strangers With Candy fans may recall that Carell originally was to play a retarded lawyer in an episode of that great show, but the idea was scrapped. Having seen what I imagine was simply that character planted into this movie, I must say I'm glad it didn't make the cut.) One thing I thought was a real nice touch was the narration by A&E's Bill Kurtis and in the Smokey and the Bandit style outtakes during the credits they showed an outtake of, you guessed it, Smokey and the Bandit. Much like Dawn of the Dead, stay until the lights come up if you wanna see all there is to see.

I was dying during this movie. Just about every gag was funny. Toward the end, things got really, really weird, though. That whole encounter with the dog and the bear was just fucking strange.

Bill Kurtis was right, though, Ron Burgundy is "the balls."
