Yeah so I bought METROPOLIS...
I also picked up the 80's version on e-bay.. Some dude had it on DVD-R for 10.95..
As for the "great hockey masked one", my personal favorite is Part VI preceeded by 1,2,4 and a little of 3, though it kind of bores me..
I guess I'm skipping it.

Kimberly. You gotta let me know what you think of Oldboy. It owns me and I love talking to people who've seen it.
Yesterday, I bought:
Taxi (french original)
Whasango (Volcano High School special editon)
Zombie 2 (Shriek Show)
Hero (Some kind of big box, book/dvd special edition - never seen anything like it)
Also recently bagged the Criterion edition of Videodrome and the new Elite 2-disc release of Re-Animator.
And Invader Zim volume 2.
oh yeah! And the Disinfo TV dvd.

Loved Oldboy my thoughts on it are here: http://www.shadows.com/forum/showthread ... ght=oldboy
Let me know what you think of Taxi. I won't go and see the remake... looks horrible. I love the first two parts of the Taxi films. The story for the third one blows, needless to say I don't care for the third installment in the Taxi films.
I must know more of this Hero thing you purchased!!

I thought it was pretty good. The driving is sick and a lot of the car stunts were the balls. The comedy probably didn't translate well for me, as I could pick out what was supposed to be funny, but it seemed like a lot of the slap sticky jokes involving the cops fell flat. Maybe if I spoke french it would have come across a little better. I'd definitely like to check out the sequel, but I've also been told to steer clear of the third one.Kimberly wrote:Let me know what you think of Taxi. Here's a shitty photo of the box.Kimberly wrote:I must know more of this Hero thing you purchased!!
It's straight chinese, not a word of english on it anywhere. There are subs, and the subs are really good, but everything else, even menu text is in chinese. The box is a little bigger than a normal DVD box and has this beautiful booklet full of high quality promo stuff. Embossed lettering, die-cut pages and layering. It's a top notch package. My only complaint with it is that the company logo appears, periodically, in the upper left hand of the screen and hangs out for thirty seconds before going away again. Why put so much effort into the packaging if you're just going to take a shit on the video presentation?

I saw a copy of Kichiku come into our store a few weeks ago and since I've turned a lot of people on to asian movies and horror lately, a lot of questions were coming up about that movie. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Kichiku is one of those movies I wish I could wipe from my memory. I've never been so depressed after a movie as I was with that one.

Kimberly, did I tell you that after I transferred all my CDs to MP3, the disc that had all my Residents stuff got damaged before I thought to back it up. Every single Residents thing I had....GONE. The horror. Still have my Icky Flix at least.
I must have been on a vampire kick a couple weeks back 'cos I bought Near Dark and the new Salem's Lot. It's funny too bc I thought "Why did I buy SL? I'm not gonna sit here for 4 hours and watch it again." But then I hurt my back and could barely move for about a week. I found time to watch it again.

there's a vampire flick being made up here in New Hampshire, Dave, that's been in production for what seems like several years. I don't know much about it except that the director is local to me, or something. It's a sort of cross genre goof fest that takes the Blade/Buffy formula and tosses in a John Woo meets Shaw Brothers sort of thing. There's a lot of hype about it among the local no-budget film making scene. Everyone thinks Rob Fitz, the director, is the shit because he somehow conned Lloyd Kaufman into coming up to do a cameo in it.
I thought the website would have a trailer, as a friend of mine was given a DVD with the trailer, but I was wrong.
I'm also rambling. I had a point, but I forgot what it was, so I'll just use this opportunity to plug myself here.
I'm finally making the announcement. I'm making a movie up here in the spring. A zombie flick. I have all the gear necessary to shoot and post it at my disposal. It's all being shot on slick-as-shit digital video (hot off the production line Canon XL-2 yo). I have a mighty fine special effects artist and her several artist friends (trained at Blasko) willing to donate her time for screen cred, a few avant/experimental musicians ready to add a Goblinesque score and a nearly finished first draft of a script. I'm a little apprehensive to give any plot details away, but I think I have a pretty original idea as far as zombie movies go and I've gotten a lot of compliments on the current version of the script.
So there. You'll have to come up and be in it. I need a lot of bodies for this one.

DD... that's horrible to hear. Check you message box
The Commercial DVD is great! Watched it this afternoon... Some of the ones they already had videos for like Moisture they redid and for the most part I like the original versions better. The new stuff though is great... they got some really talented artists who did a killer job with making videos to their songs.
Latte... Good luck!!

Well, if I like the script, and if I can have the biggest trailer on the set, and 2 sexy young personal assistants and if the money is right.......I'll think about it. Talk to my agent......
Just kidding of course, when you are ready to go, just let me know and I'd be happy to help out anyway I can.

Might as well update myself since I did start the thread and all that.
Since the horror con back in October, I've gotten my hands on the following:
House of Flying Daggers - Zang Yimou follows up Hero with another martial arthouse flick. We've discussed it here a little already, so check out that thread for more info.
Arahan - Korean action movie about a goofy cop that can't get anything right until he meets the seven masters who teach him to whip ass with chi. It's funny, the effects are pretty good. Pretty standard for a martial arts movie, but it qualifies as another Korean home run.
Casshern - Big hype action movie from Japan that is something of an eastern answer to Sky Captain. Most of it is shot on blue screen and is mostly CGI. It's really appealing for the eyes, but the movie is long as hell and boring! The action scenes are few and far between, but kick fucking ass when they happen.
The Nest - French remake of Assault on Precinct 13. Not a bad movie, features the guy who plays Daniel in the French Taxi movies.
The Warriors - If you haven't seen this gang movie, you are stupid.
Azumi - Chick ninja flick by the guy who directed Versus. This movie actually features a plot this time around and has a fair amount of blood plus some pretty decent fight scenes.
THX-1138 Director's Cut - The movie Lucas prefers to Star Wars. It also got the special edition touch, but these changes are actually pretty decent and help the movie a little.
Shaun of the Dead - It's the shit okay!
Thriller: A Cruel Picture - Pretty artsy swedish revenge flick that Tarantino paid homage to via Elle Driver's eyepatch in Kill Bill. Features some intrusive hardcore porn and some downright beautiful action scenes.
Appleseed (2004) - Updated cellshaded CGI anime based on the original one from the 80's. Haven't watched it yet, not a big anime fan but I really like the look of what I've seen so far.
Haute Tension - Found an uncut, subtitled bootleg. Haven't watched it yet, really looking forward to it.
Ultraviolet - Four part British vampire miniseries. I caught it during its run on Sci-Fi Channel and it was pretty innovative and cool. Why not bootleg it?
Crimewave - Hard to find Raimi/Cohen Bros. movie featuring Bruce Campbell. Watched a little of it, looks pretty awful.
