Are there any good horror zines?

Post by Latte Thunder »

I'm sure a lot of us who were into horror back before the internet got a lot of recommendations for obscure movies from many of the zines that ran back in the 80's and early 90's. Since then, there really haven't been many that I've seen in recent years. Do people still do these?

I found copies of Videoscope and another called Shock Cinema at a local news shop, but I don't really see anything else other than Fango and Rue Morgue for horror publications.

I to bought the newest copies of Videoscope and Shock Cinema, and they are both good mags. However Uncut (which I bought from Harvey Fenton at Fantasia 2005) was by far the best horror mag I've read to date. It might only be 56 pages, but it packs those pages with great reviews and info. The whole mag is pretty much reviews, and the last 3 pages is a listing of upcoming international DVD releases. The mag also answers the question "is this DVD cut or uncut?" Sometimes giving a detailed history of the different international videotape/DVD versions the films have gone through. I also got Cinema Sewer at Fantasia, which is drawn like a comic book and filled with info. Still I should warn u, half the mag or more is porn. I got 6 issues and plan to get more as well as all the missed Uncut issues.

Harvey Fenton of FAB press had two mags way back called Eyeball and Flesh & Blood, which were the best horror mags out there. They have both been discontinued and made into two books by Harvey, called Eyeball Compendium and Flesh & Blood Compendium He also has a Zine Page u should check. Video Watchdog is always good. Deep Red if u like it, and a few others I can't remember now.

Hope that helps:)

Another mag that has been discontinued is Deathrealm There some good links for zines at Exploitation Retrospect that I just found today. Lets not forget Michael J. Weldon's Psychotronic Video

And there is always more like Badazz Mofo

I'm sure others will add to the list:)
